HOw long should it take....?

Ok, I wrecked my car on May 10th, and the insuracne company decided to fix the thing, front end is all smashed up etc. The Body Shop said it would be 6-8 weeks to fix it, ok, whatever. Well, it keeps getting longer and longer on the time they it is gonna take, All they have done is had it on the frame rack, took it apart, and welded on the inner fenders or whatever. and they have had the car 2 months!! Now they are saying middle august that they will have the car fixed. Am I totally getting screwed, should it take ANY shop more than 2 months to fix any car that is fixable? The damage is over $10,000. And I dont have a car. I dunno what to do, someone gimme some help, my dad has done nothing but be nice to them, and he wont complain, so I am going to have to, and I dont think they are going to listen to a 17 yr old. Think calling the BBB would help? I just need somethin, some help at all

What insurance do you have, if the damage on my car was over 10g's I know that Allstate, State Farm, or Farmers insurance would call it totaled, it is in their laws.

State Farm, the body shop screwed them, and quoted $7,000 at first, then the insurance put $2,500 in an account there for me for them to get started on it, the price jumped to over $10,000

I would go in with a howitzer and go postal on them!!!!!...........J/K My car was damaged last week, and they told me a week or so to fix it. Well I went by there yesterday, and they havent even touched it!!! I called the BBB, and found they had a good record, BUT...I went up the chain to the general manager and b!tched until he got fed up with me. Granted they are being cool, by putting on a new carbon fiber hood and stuff, but you just have to complain to the right person. I called this morning, and was told they already put on the new quarter panel and it is third in line to get painted. So looks like my complaining paid off.

In my experience as well as others that I know, when a body shop gives you an estimate on how long it will take to fix your car, a good rule of thumb is to double that. It seems like it typically takes twice as long as they say it will.

I also had the same problem you're having once before. I got in a wreck and the car should have been totalled, but the estimate they gave to fix it wasn't half the value of the car, so the insurance said to fix it. The final bill to fix the car ended up being more than what the car was actually worth.

Also, when you finally do get your car back, check it over from top to bottom. Alot of times, they do a poor job or don't fix everything. They might say "Oh, we thought that was already like that before the wreck", which is bullsh@#! It's their job to put your car back exactly the way it was before the wreck.

Looks like he was originally quoted 7 grand. I think once they start the work, it has to be finished, no matter what the final bill.

That seems like it is taking a real long time, and it shouldnt. I remember when I got into a accident with my 99 ex, it was gone for about a month. My friends 3000gt was gone for about 2 months too. Wait a few more weeks before you take any serious actions. They could be a real busy shop.

i would complain to the insurance company, they should be able to provide you with some sort of rental car, it dosen't hurt to ask.
