manuals are much faster off the line and thus going to be faster in the 1/4 mile... im a newb so i dont remember what the part is but there is a part you can get for an auto that makes it shift at a higher rpm thus making it more like a manual... pluss manuals are much more fun to drive, i raced a cavalear today, i was in my moms v6 accord and he beat me off the line cause she has auto, i caught up to him pretty quick though

Maybe 1 or 2 hp

The manual civic because manuals get off the line faster then autos
3)Turbo Civic Auto without no n20 vs Turbo Civic with n20? Who you think Wins?
Turbo civic with n20 (this is the manual right?) if so yea it would win!

Gryphin you dont know jack. i just got back from the usual thursday night races and guess what i saw. two 99' civic ex's both turboed one manual one auto. both same exact turbos and intercoolers on them. and guess who won. the auto. and do you know why. bc an auto can shift much fast and it will also shift at the perfect time to keep the boost up as much as it can.

A good driver can make a manual faster than an auto, but not by that much. When you have any sort of FI, it really doesn't make a big difference if you know how to drive.

usually, ever since cars have been modified, manuals were the preffered choice cuz autos loose power to the wheels because they are driven by fluid pressure and the torque converter(what joins the engine to the trans) has some slip built in. manuals, the amount of slip is controlled by the driver.

blah blah blah its like us vs canada, sure we know the us will beat canada but canadians will still argue anyway....

if you cant shift, an auto will beat you....

but if you actually KNOW how to bang through the gears, it's a different story

ya it most definately is!

im just getting sick of this auto vs. manual crap thats being posted by kids who know nuttin about cars and mechanic design. If the auto tranny were that sound, why would they continue to produce the manuals...yeah exactly...why are all exotics stick? hmmm...interesting question...actually not really

im not here to fight over the net....i got better things to do with my time...I just dont enjoy reading the same type of post once a day.....

i'm sure you can do a lil research on the net and find the answers to question like this on the net. I find that most noobs are looking for simple answers, the lazy way out...do some of your own reasearch and see for yourself before you ask dumb things...

that's just terrible....

spider, your spider has a bit more massage work than mine, but i'd race you.... of course, i am in SF, but if we meet

it would be more interesting to race two ex's off the lot, a 4at vs a 5mt ...... the 5mt will win (as long as the driver knows how to shift correctly)

im not laughing at ya, i give you mad props....you're a pioneer to us and our cars! You paved the way for us man! And im sure you'll be the first to take the next step cuz you are one step ahead already. Don't misintrepret me, i love your cars style, looks sweet.

I'm just laughing at the foolishness of the debate...auto vs stick...nuff said....

People who got auto's got them for a reason (intimidated, didnt not how to drive stick, etc, etc....), they must have had a reason because they paid about $600 extra for it. I'm not saying auto's suck, not at all, it comes down to personal preference there i guess, its a convienience option of sorts. I just hate it when people try to make themselves and others wrongly believe theres a performance advantage so they feel like there cars are better. Too me thats talking smack, they obviously dont know enough about cars to make such a comment, simple.

why is it that people blame 'traffic' as the reason not driving a manual? before i drove a manual i thought the same, but now i don't really mind driving a manual in silicon valley traffic. i guess it's something you have to get used to. it's a challenge and that's what makes it fun. but if you say you don't drive a manual because you live in san francisco, now that's understandable.

I have an Auto as well and sure some days I wish I had a stick, just for fun though. I went with an auto because where I live we get alot of snow in the winter and with an auto I can have better control of my car and the speed. Not because I am Intimidated, or dont know how, hell I drove truck for 6 years, if you think going through 5 gears is hard try going through 24+ gears. Spider is an insperation to most of us with an auto, hell I am going to make some calls today about a P&P job for the car, so Props to you man. I am just as sick as you hearing all the questions about "Auto vs. Manual" but its all good, each time I learn a bit more about how it all works, but in the end I could care less about who is faster and who is going to beat me off the line, its all speculation till you are there and doing it. IM not flaming just giving my $0.02.

uh, with any FI application the automatic should usually win, but for the average application, the manual should be faster. an automatic can keep the turbo spooled better than an auto, and its easier to spray on an auto (usually) as well.

Just out of curiosity. What is the optimum RPM to shift at to get the most hp? My engine is pretty much stock and I am just wondering where is the best place to change gears.
