What's The Legal Limit in Tinting in California?
Ok, I'm tired of my left arm being a lot darker than my right arm from all the sun light and also getting burned up while I drive.
I want to get my windows tinted. What is the legal limit? Can I pretty much tint everything except the front? Thanks for any information.

I believe this topic has been covered and links have been posted to sites with the laws. I heard that you can tint the front, but if cops can't see through it at night, then you'll be in trouble. I'm sure you've seen some domestics with 5% tint on the whole car.
My local tint shop said for CA you can go as dark as you want on the rear 3 windows but no tint what so ever on the front 3. My mom's accord got the back 3 windows tinited 2nd darkest to limo tint and the front 3 w/ UV filter film.

The tint shop I also spoke to said any % on the rear windows but none in the front (at all) but as you can tell by my car and most cars in Cali, we tint are front windows. So far I haven't got pulled over yet.
I use to be scared and whenever driving city, I would roll the window down, but after a while the fact is the cops don't give a ish, unless they really want to stop you, like they did with me without a front license plate.
Oh well.

Yes, rear windows may be ask dark as you want. No tint is allowed on the front windows. If you have the rear windows tinted you must have a mirror on each side of the car. (Not many cars only have one side mirror anymore, but hey... it's worth mentioning.)
Cops don't usually say anything about the front tint if you don't go ridiculously dark. I do have a friend that's a Sheriff's Deputy and he makes stops all the time for tint if he thinks the driver might be a dirtbag. He doesn't usually write for it, just uses it as an excuse to stop.

Yeah CA has some tuff tint laws on the front 2 I will be going through North CA in a week so hopefully they don't get crazy with my Limo all the way around. AZ is common for having most people with limo all around and our front door laws are 35% which is just stupid since its so hot here and so bright 32% is like having no tint in my mind get at least in the 20%'s. Yeah after I get out of AZ I will have to have on 2 plates again but who knows if I will do it. It all comes down to the cop

Okay uhh this is kind of dumb but if its factory tint, is it legal? i mean if it came with the car, cause my friend has an accord TL and he just got pulled over recently cause it was too dark on the sides but his was factory tint and came with his car, so hows that illegal then?

about the tint laws: you can get whatever tint you want on the rear 3, and whatever you want on the front, but the front "technically" aren't supposed to be tinted at all. tint shops will do whatever you want, cuz its your car and your fine if/when you get pulled over. i got 5% rear 3, 20% front and i think that i am gonna go darker on the front windows eventually.
Correct about the out of state deal. For instance, in the State of Pennsylvania, you are not supposed to tint your front windows. If, however, you are from New York State and your vehicle is registered in New York and you travel to PA, a PA officer would not be able to summons you for the tints.
In New York, there is supposed to be 70% light transmittance to the front (30% can be blocked w/ tint) two windows. I don't think the back is regulated.
