auto with shift boot ricey?
I think an automatic with a shift boot is pretty much the same as having a new shift ****, it's what you think looks nice. I don't even know what is rice anymore. It seems everytime I want to do something to the car, I need to ask myself if this will make my car ricey, now it's all just who cares, I do what I think looks nice as long as it ain't ugly or ridiculously stupid.

i dont think its ricey. the bmw's autos all have leather boots on, and it looks good. much better than just the shaft of the shifter. and ive never really liked the civic auto shifter to begin with, so a big
for that!

Ok, anyone who thinks its ricey should seriously look around car dealerships more often. There are a lot more and more automatic vehicles being released with a shift boot on an automatic transmission. I personally did not do this to mimic a 5 speed look, I did this conversion for 2 main reasons, First off I wanted to give my car a cleaner more styled look, I feel that the automatic that Honda provides stock just doesnt cut it. Second, anyone with a sedan will know this, the 4 doors come with this bronze'ish color plate not the silver one like in coupes. Everything else on my car is either silver or chrome and by doing the conversion I got the silver trim ring around the boot to match the rest of my car.
If anyone really wants to bring up cars that have boots on an automatic shifter, let no one forget that the american ICON Corvette has been putting a boot on their automatic shifter for years now. Theres no one anywhere that I know who would dare talk trash to a corvette owner about how his shifter is ricey because it has a boot. Why should that be any different for a guy who owns a civic just because its not a domestic vehicle? Obviously if you look at the pics of it done, Aside from seeing an aftermarket shift ****, no one would know it was not supposed to be that way.

How do you convert the auto to have a shift boot instead? And on other cars (corvettes, bmws and all) how do they make their shift boots look? Do they still have some sort of gear indicator next to the transmission? or do they put it on the dash like on our cars?
From what I've seen, when a car comes auto with shift boot, it's also a tiptronic transmission, so there'd be a little display near the spedometer and tach showing what gear you're on. At least that's what I've seen with BMW SMG and 3 series tiptronic transmissions.

im gonna do it.. and its good for keeping crap from falling into the hole were the stick sticks out.. it keeps juices from spilling into the lettering thingy.. basically just keeps it clean and looks cool too
dude heres another thread and what i think about it
Also the Corvette has a little insert built in next to the shiftboot that tells you what gear youre in like the stock one in the civ.

its the same reason for both transmissions, to cover that ugly shaft that's showing...

its your car, so if ou like it go for it, I could care less what other people think, persoanlly I think it looks good, but I painted the trim all around the auto panel so it looks even better ...go for it
this thread inspired me to do it, I've already ordered some parts, and I'll have them wed. I just need to get a shifter I like. I would like to find a t-handle shifter that is covered with like a black leather or something instead of the t-handles that I've seen that don't really match up with my interior. I wonder if I can make it work with the OEM shifter...?
