Why does mustangs have a red mark on the 55mph mark?
My boss drives a 95' ford mustang and I notice on the speedometer there is a red mark on 55mph mark while the rest is white for each increment . Is there a reason it's there?

HAHAHA!!! All of you are wrong...at one time, all US cars had some type of marking on the double nickel; be it a red hash, a red circle around it, or just red numbers, they all recall a time when the national speed limit was 55. Simple as that.

thats how many times it has been beaten by a 2k1 civic DUH!!!!!!! its actually pretty cool how the mustang can count how many times it has been beaten like that its more of a convenience thing since stang owners tend to lose count of things like that. other stangs count how many thousands of dollars have been has been poured into it just to keep it running

dang...u guys actually beat a Mustang??? i know the V6 ones before 99 were slow...but only if the driver of the mustang sucked and the driver of the civic was good...my friends and i with 2k1 civic EX's have never beaten any 99+ V6 Mustang.

Hey Guys Be nice I own a 2001 Mustang GT also as well as the wives 2k2 civic. My mustang works great, very fast. I have never had anything wrong with this stang or my 2000 GT before this one. Then again I maintain my automobiles unlike some mustang owners out there, and i dont beat on it all the time. Only once in a while. You may have beaten a 99+ v6 if you had a 50 shot without it either the driver was asleep or he didnt know how to drive. The older ones like 94-98 v6 may lose to a 2k2. I think they only have like 140hp to the back wheels and they are mad heavier then the 2k2. My friend has a 96 v6 with straight pipe exhuast and a cai and i can almost take him in the 2k2 civic stock. It keeps right up with it. I must say that I love my mustang GT very much but I will be converting soon to the world of the civic. The $532 payments on the Stang are killing me.

Building upon my knowledge of the 55mph mark.......during the oil embargo gas crunch of the 70's.....that mark was established to save on gas milage or be better efficeint with your fuel consumption......now continuing your Mustang Argument....I thought I give a 2000 V6 mustage a shot a while ago...just to see the performance difference from a dead start......he beat me worse than I thought he would.
those are the lowest numbers i have ever seen for those cars with 5 speeds?
the new GTs run mid 14s or high 14s with an auto an normal driver and i know
the 99+V6 auto's run either very low 16s and high 15s...
cause my friends auto beat this low 16 sec. 2k1 civic by like 2 cars.
