Its probably a guarantee it had over 300lb ft of torque. I doubt he could come anywhere close to getting him off the line.

Turbo charged 4.9L Trans am= Slow spooling time. HUGE power once the turrbo spools.. my friend Tim had one for a bit. it's GM 305 engine with a shortened stroke to lower compression, it offers some 370HP and 393 lb.ft of torque....

Okay..turboe'd or not, just about ANY trans am would rip you a new one...

the 4.9 Turbo trans ams run a whopping 6psi boost..the turbo is fairly large just to support the air flow to support a 6psi boost...

How much Bhp yer Talon running?. My old sonata with same engine and Turbonetics turbo upgrade with intercooler running 14psi boost was pushing just shy of 260bhp..but that engine didn't last..

i am runnin 1 bar so about 14.5 psi with awd..well that didn't matter cause we were moving already..and i might have lsot some power compared to his rearwheel drive..my eagle is a inline4 and that trans am must have been atleast a v6 so even though he was only runnin 6psi teh V6 and rear wheel drive made up for it...

The original poster mentioned that it was an OLD Turbo Trans Am.

There have been only TWO factory turbocharged Trans Ams. The first would be a 1980 (81?) model with a 4.9l turbocharged V8. It made a whopping 190 horsepower (if memory serves) and ran a low 16 quarter mile in the only test I ever saw on it. It might be able to cut into the 15's. I've never heard of ANY of these used in any real performance application. This model would have a "hood scoop" of sorts. It is a rear-facing scoop with some LED's on it that would light up under boost.

The other factory turbocharged T/A would be a late 80's (1989?) model using the 3.8l turbocharged V6 that used to sit in the Buick Grand Nationals. This engine was conservatively rated at 245hp in the Grand Nationals, and it is rumored that it was pushing more in the neighborhood of 245hp. These T/A's were very quick, with low 14 or 13 second 1/4 mile times out of the box. These may have had a 'bulge' in the hood, but not a scoop, per se.

Perhaps this is the model you ran across?

Did it look like that? That is a 1989. I highly doubt it was a 1981 as there are very few of those in working order.
