Car Buying Advice Needed
Car Buying Advice Needed
I need some advice regarding negotiating and buying a new vehicle. If this is not the proper topic for this forum I apologize.
Monday a driver ran a red light and broadsided my Civic just a little behind the driver’s door. There were no injuries, we all walked away with out a scratch. The vehicle has yet to be evaluated, but the adjuster said that air bag deployment usually indicates that the damage is serious enough to declare the vehicle a total loss. So, I thought I would prepare myself for the worst case and do my research.
Has anyone bought a new car lately, if so what advice can you give me? One local dealer has two Civics the other has one.
One web site suggest asking for a quote over the phone. According to this site it will almost always beat a quote from the showroom. Tell them politely, but firmly, that if they can’t provide an out-the-door price over the phone, you’ll be taking your business elsewhere.
One web site states that manufacturers and dealer managers pay attention to something called a cross-sell report. It tells exactly which dealers are strong enough to keep their local buyers local and also go after customers outside of their own territory. If a local dealer loses too many local customers, it doesn’t look good. Is this true for Honda?
The local dealer here puts various after market accessories on the car which, in my opinion, are worthless. Things like pin stripping, VIN etching, diamond windshield treatment, nitrogen tire fill, and anti-theft lugs. With the exception of the lugs these items are permanent and not wanted by me. How could this be addressed during negotiations?
