Mothballs in gas tank act as nitrous??

I don't mean to sounds completely ignorant here, but I was reading the post about sugar in gas tanks and how it can screw up your engine, and it got me thinking about something someone once told me...that if you put mothballs in your gas tank it will disolve in your gas tank and then be injected into your engine acting almost as nitous would????

could someone back me up with this if anyone has ever heard this????

Go out and drop about 20 of them in then tank. Then, wait about 20 mins and go for a ride. Let us know what happens. You could be a legend on the forum. The first member to put mothballs in his gastank.....

screw mothballs... rip up some styrofoam into small chunks and shove 'em down the tube! then drive around like a maniac to get the fuel to slosh around and dissolve the styrofoam... once that happens, your engine will be injected with NAPALM!!!

i wonder how far the flames will be shooting out the exhaust...

The kind of mothball you're probably thinking of is made of "naphthalene" which is a hydrocarbon, like gasoline. It's C10H8, and it looks like two benzene rings fused together. Benzene makes a very smoky fire when burned, so naphthalene would make a lousy additive, but since it's just carbon and hydrogen (like gasoline) naphthalene probably wouldn't do any harm to the engine either.

Dichlorobenzene mothballs however, will pump HCL (hydrochloric acid) thru your exhaust system. Probably not so good for the exhaust system, or the people breathing it.

Oh, and you think you hated chemistry in high school, try Organic Chemistry in College. Nothin worse than learning why those benzene rings that he was talkin about bond together like that

Hey instead of mothball get you get liquid nitrous and pour it in to the gas tank. I think that sound dangerous though. Hahah mothballs! crazier than my idea of neutral dropping!!But ya try it though man. Blast those musting away with mothpower!
