Locked myself out of car

I was at school and locked myself out b/c i was playing tennis and couldn't carry my keys but didn't realize i locked the car. So i had to wait 6 hours before i could get the spare key from my dad.

I called the police department so they wouldn't tow my car away but they insist that they open it for me.. but I said no because I don't want them to mess up my car...

So with the sophistication of locking mechanisms of new cars such as 2k1 civics.. would there be damage to the car if the cop use whatever they use to open the locks? or would this process damage the car in anyway..?

uh.. doesn't honda make it so that its almost impossible to lock your keys inside? if you try to lock your door with your door open it wont work. you have to lock it from the outside.

When i lock my door, i always use the "pull handle, press lock" method... because i hate having to close the door and inserting the key in and turning it..

i hate turning keys on a car, i have a phobia of the key breaking off or accidentally scratching the paint

no kidding... AB must have a dx

i've had my LX with remote entry for almost a year now.

i just went outside to lock it manually (pull the handle and press the switch) for the first time. "wow, cool! you'd have to be an IDIOT to lock your keys inside!"

heh... sorry AB yet another reason why tennis shorts shouldn't be so short (and should have pockets).

I've slim-jimmed by 01 Civic coupe before and had no problems. I have also slim jimmed several other Hondas with no problem. I have been unable to gain entry in BMWs and Mercedes. Anyone can buy a slimjim, but you do need to know how to work it properly.

I was in Queens and my friend had locked his keys in his car
and we saw a cop and asked him if he could slim jim it and he
said the police department won't do that any more because
people sue the police department because it scratches the
window.

Yeah, that's NYPD policy; most of the units have slimjims but won't use them. My department has "lock-out" forms that the person who called us must sign which releases liability.

you should consider triple A or the other day i got an advertisement from honda about some deal like triple A, you should join....it would probably also lower your insurance, Triple A would unlock your car if you locked your keys in and also fill your tank of gas if you run out, they do more stuff but you get the idea

From 1993 until last year I carried a plastic car key card I picked up at an autoshow. Slim as a credit card, it had my Accord key carved in plastic (with a metal shim embeded for strength). Always in my wallet, it saved me at least 4-5 times over the years. You had to insert it and turn s l o w l y so as to not snap it off but now that I have my new EL I miss it! Hard to describe unless you've seen one...

who makes them ? Love one for the ride I have now.

I keep a spare in my wallet, and with my '99 civic I had a copy hidden up in the wheel well behind the plastic splash guard. Once at the gym I locked both my keys and my wallet in the car and had to use the hidden key

Yo

....automatic locks.....can't shut the door with it locked already. Unlocks it which is good but my mechanic has to shut the door then lock it leave the trunk open and then put my keys in there!!!! Automatic locks have saved us once
from locking our keys inside....

yeah, my friend locked my keys in my car last weekend, cause i forgot them in his car. i called AAA and they just opend the door with some wedge and this metal thing...not a slim jim...the dude just kinda pried the door open a bit and went in like that. kinda scratched the lock tab a little, but it didnt look like there was any other damage. and he did it in like 5 sec.

Some of the Mercedes and Cadillac's have a feature where you call a number and they can unlock the car. Like on a Mercedes, you call the 800 number and give your password and they just unlock it. Of course, you pay for that service per month, it's not free.
