Driving home from errands today, top down, beautiful weather.... I saw a Red Mustang turn down the road ahead of me. I turned the same way, and sped to catch up, as I was in the mood to play a little.
As I get behind the Mustang I notice a woman (probably in her 30's) is driving. Okay. Probably not someone who will play, but I stay behind her anyways. We eventually get to the part where the road splits to two lanes, and I move to the left.
Nice looking stang. Definitely one of the new Mustang GT's. It was really clean and I must admit I thought it looked pretty sharp.
Anyways, I speed by her about 65mph in a 50 zone, and she speeds up a bit to stay near. Stoplight.... To my surprise she starts a short conversation....
Her: Nice car.
Me: Thanks. Yours too. What year?
Her: 2001. My husband was looking at getting one of those.
Me: He was going to get an S2000?
Her: Yeah, but he decided he wanted the mustang instead.
Me: Oh, so he's a mustang kinda guy?
Her: No, he got the mustang cuz it's faster.
Me: The only reason he got it is cuz he thinks it is faster.
Her: No, he got it cuz he KNOWS it is faster.
Okay, timeout. At this time, a number of comebacks, smart remarks, and other such flames are going through my mind. I also imagine a yokel mullet-bearing salesman going "yuk yuk yuk...hehe... sure will beat the tarnish off that there Honda yer lookin at". I think of my reply...
Me: That's funny, I bought this car, cuz I thought this one was faster.
Her: That's ok. You didn't know.
Now I don't know what to say. Light's about to turn.... Green. I roll out quick, jumping the light a bit (guess I got ancy) and I hear her just STOMP the gas. Squeals the tires a bit, and I immediately react by flooring it.
She shoots by me a bit, as I am low in the powerband, but I quickly catch up with VTEC in 1st. I go to 2nd, start pulling just slightly.... haha, I hear her car shift... AUTO. hehe. I pass her just a bit with 2nd, and 3rd gear starts to pull more. I shut down about 80mph, having about 2 or 3 lengths on her. I slow down so she catches up. I look over. Nothing.... She looked constipated....??? oookay. She turns off, and goes her seperate way.
I can't believe someone would look at a pony car, then look at a roadster, and then go.... gimme whichever one is faster...?? Why wouldn't you get an LS1 camaro? Oh wait, that's right. His GT must be faster than those too...

Rep Power: 400 Christ, forget supercharger. If they are gonna blow 60grand on a boxster, get the S2k for 33k and TURBO kit for like 7k. You now have a sweet looking S2000... AAAND it runs 11's. [IMG]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/IMG]

Their 0-60 time is in the low 6's(mid fives if you know what your doing). True I would get an S2000 over a Mustang or Camaro anyday. But either she wasn't trying or something smells fishy.

Im sorry, im gonna have to disagree with you on this one buddy. Its a little known fact that all Mustangs carry nearly all of their power in the lower register. When you get upstairs with them, that when they start to lose it. My friend has a 2001 GT (leader of my racing team in fact), and hes always complaining about how he has no power in the upper register.
This kind of pertains to the thread...i raped the doors off of my first 2000-01 V6 Mustang with dual exhaust. No it wasnt a GT, cause the back bumper didnt have the cut-outs for the exhaust. Anyways, i was riding through a street with him behind me, and we come up to a stop light, i look over at him...he has those sunglasses with the white frames (damn valley kids, sorry dont mean to offend anyone), and a trophy girlfriend in the passenger side. Nice mustang...silver, black leather, rims, exhaust. Well, me with my big head (due to new AEM CAI, and 17's) rev up to show him a thing or two, he does the same and we're off. Like i said before, mustangs have their power downstairs, so we are pretty even, then i begin to pull on him at about 5000rpm in second.
I love my car, and it just makes me smile every time when i hear that intake growling at me, and my victoms. [IMG]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/IMG]

I saw a s2000 cruising down the freeway, Brand new, so I cruised up next to it, just to sit and stare. It had bigger aftermarket wheels, and an older man driving it. I gave him the "nice car head nod"...
I must say you own a beautiful piece of material.

Am I missing something??? Hell, 2 or 3 lengths is BAD for beating an AUTO GT. Had I dropped off the line, it'd be 7-10 lengths by the 1/4 mile mark.
no way I beat a car that does 14's in the 1/4 and 0-60 in the 6's?? lol. dude, Stock S2000's can do 13.7 in the 1/4 and 5.2 in the 0-60. An AUTO GT is an easy kill. Manual for the current gen GT is a tougher crowd. And anything pre-99 GT stock is a walk in the park for someone that knows how to drive their S2000.

Rep Power: 0 I wouldnt say its an EASY KILL, but I do defintely believe you beat her in your 2k. New Mustang GT's are still pretty damn heavy. If you could shave 500lbs off of them, then they would probably beat you. but those 2k's have like 225 horse and 195 to the wheels and they weigh next to nothing. Good driving.

Rep Power: 400 240hp at the crank. about 200hp to the wheels. but its weight, short gear ratio, 9000rpm, etc. help it to get to the 1/4 mile mark quicker than a stock Mustang GT.

You're telling a stick shift S2000 can't beat an AUTOMATIC 4.6L Mustang??? Granted, he did a soft launch....... hence why the Stang nudged up past it... but S2000 *WOULD* pass it eventually.
A lot of you have been in a Mustang one time or another (or got smoked by one) so you know how quick they are...
But I am willing to bet 90% of you out there have no clue exactly how quick S2000 is. When the VTEC kicks in, it is *SCARY* quick.. things happen very fast, very prantic.. and the fat in your cheeks pull back.

i just went to www.car-stats.com and mustang gt converitibles go from 0-60 in 6 sec and have a 1/4 mile time of 14.7. the s2000s 0-60 time on car-stats.com was 5.2 and ran 13.8 in the 1/4. thats almost a second faster in the 1/4 mile time so 2-3 car lengths isnt all that impressive.

he said he stopped at abuot 80? thats not even a quarter mile yet in a s2k. it may be for us, since thats near our 1/4 mile trap time... if the race would have kept going, the s2k will keep on pulling...
Anyway, its just a light race story people, shesh.

The GT is a V6. The GT is not the top of the line model, it's one of the base models with 260 HP and about the same (if not a lil more) torque.
An S2k should easily dispose of one... well, duh the story is right there.
At any rate, if it was a stick, I guess it'd be on the driver.
