the 03 hybrid is starting to look really appealing
i've been sitting around and thinking a few things:
1) i drove my friend's 94 TT Supra the other day and loved punching it, flying down the road. then i thought to myself, if i owned this car and it was my daily driver, i would only rev high enough to get the BOV to sound. i wouldn't be able to afford flooring it everyday (since it would waste so much gas). then that got me thinking: if i were to get my 7thgen to be even half as fast, i would still shift at my 3K everyday regardless of what kind of mods i have.
2) i've been really pessimistic lately and decided that it's pretty pointless to get any more performance mods for our cars (please spare the flaming, i still would want to but see no point) reason being is that our cars were not designed to burn Mustangs and such. the one thought that keeps going through my mind is "a turboed 7thgen may beat a 6th gen SI, but a turboed 6thgen SI will dominate a the turboed 7th gen" with that in mind, and what i said in the first statement, i've lost the urge to modify my civic.
3) OK, back to the Hybrid: i never though i'd say it but i'm starting to like it.
-since IMO our civics are pretty slow anyway, the hybrid would not seem to be super-slow.
-i'm a poor college student so the cost of gas is something i would like to minimize
-a fast car will do no good in rush-hour traffic
4) the specs of the hybrid:
-48/47 MPG with the 5-speed
-comes with rims and a spoiler
-power windows/locks etc
-even a shift light for economy driving ( which i think is really neat)
i'm not saying i don't like modding my car, i'm just in a way ranting about how i feel about not having a lot of money for a real sports car and trying to make my car something it's not, so please spare the flaming. i was just wondering if anyone feels the same way i feel

I think the hybrid is still too expensive... I mean the money you save down the road by using less gas won't make up the difference between the cost of a regular vic and a hybrid vic.

I feel the same way man. Dont get me wrong, I love my civic( spent hours reading on how to modify it and make it faster) but I feel that I should save the money for a faster car that is unique to the general population. I always wanted to get a skyline and on the passenger side.
Hey, those are the gauges I have in my 'vic ..
Except I probably paid more for 'em, since I had them installed at a shop before I discovered 2k1civic.com. I LOVE this site!!
Oh, and as far as the hybrid goes - I saw one parked at the local dealership and it is pretty tight, but as has already been said, the money you'd save on gas wouldn't make up for the higher-priced car. It'd take a long time before you start seeing a return on your investment. The best fuel source, which hasn't even beeen tapped here in the US - and this is a point Jay Leno made, I read it in a magazine somewhere, maybe it was Honda Tuning - would be Diesel. Not that un-purified crap that truckers use, but actual refined diesel which is incredibly abundant and MUCH cheaper to use. Unfortunately the big oil companies aren't too thrilled about that idea, so it's doubtful we'll see anything like that for quite a while. Otherwise yeah, the hybrid is a pretty nice, gas efficient car - just not worth the extra money you'd have to spend for, IMO, such a small improvement in gas mileage ..

Honda would never make a diseal. They are a car company that actully cares about the enviroment. All Hondas are LEV (low emission vechicle)or less, in our case (ultra)ULEV. I think the hybrid made a new listing SULEV (super ultra). I live in Southern Cali, and it's sad, you can't even bring a civic up to full throttle cuz the freeways are so clogged. Maybe at like 3AM or something. Anyway my point is with basic bolt on mods you get a car that sounds cool DC sports civic anyone 5HP +? But it still keeps it's ULEV rating. That's a big plus for me. If I wanted to just go fast I would have got a chevy.
My dream car is an S2000 with a JR super charger. That engine puts out around 340HP and still has a LEV rating.

I hate shiftlights IMO - Saab has had it for a while now, and it's a little on the annoying side. But the hybrid is pretty tite none the less...for such a hefty pricetag? The writeup on it says it can do here to california in 4 tanks of gas...sounds like a real money saver to me...

The hybrid is a great car IMO. My insurance agent says the cost of insurance on these hybrids are more b/c of the price to fix it incase of an accident. She may or may not be correct, check yours before purchasing one.
yeah i love those gauges on the hybrid! also I like the front end. there was already an Accord SULEV out last year, so I guess the civic hybrid would be the second. I don't know if the insight was a SULEV or not.
