Hello fellow members,
I am interested in importing a MUGEN RR from Japan and was looking for some much needed guidance.
I live in Canada, & I know the law is I can only import a Japanese vehicle that is over 15 years old. How do I register this 2008 vehicle in Canada? If you disassemble the vehicle, put the transmission & the body in 2 different containers, mark them as 'USED AUTO PARTS' then sure they will clear the border; however they cannot be registered at the ministry of transportation - see this excerpt from the government of Canada's website:
"An inadmissible vehicle cannot be imported into Canada unless the vehicle’s title designates it as a parts-only vehicle. In this case, the vehicle can be imported into Canada for the sole purpose of being disassembled and used for parts. Parts-only vehicles must be declared when they arrive at the border and are processed on a Vehicle Imported for Parts Form – Form 3. A parts-only designation can never be changed. These vehicles can never be licensed as they will have a non-repairable status with all licensing jurisdictions in Canada."
Is there a way around this?
Here are the websites you can find the information:
http://www.riv.ca/VehicleAdmissibility.aspx
http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dan...rgoutcan.shtml
I could always build on a Canadian Civic chassis & import the MUGEN RR parts but that wouldn't be the real deal which is what I'm after.
Anyone in the U.S. having the same issue?
Thanks very much for ALL of the help gentlemen.
Regards

So it's A mugen tuned civic or what?
you may be able to import it as a parts car as you were saying then put it together and claim the original vin from a civic you own is damaged.
apply for a new vin. once you get that insure the car.
here is a link to icbc for new vin numbers it might be the same as where you live.

i dont see you going anywhere but having a purely track car, if you try and claim the vin is damaged youll surely get caught in every bit of red tape insurance/rego will most likely want it looked over by a garage which will flag it out as jdm car
good luck tho
(have you looked at the acura csx type-s?)
