Chances 'good' for R-rated Honda, exec says
Revival strategy: Mitsubishi will work on small cars

LOS ANGELES - American Honda has courted the American youth market successfully with limited runs of the Type R Acura Integra, while Type R Honda Civics tear up the roads in Japan and Europe.
Will we see more of the same here?
American Honda Executive Vice President Tom Elliott says the chances are good that the Acura RSX, the Integra replacement that boasts 160 hp in base form and 200 hp in Type S trim, will spawn a Type R.
The Type R Integra generates 195 hp. Extrapolating what a Type R modification could do to the RSX Type S engine is exciting, Elliott admits.
But Elliott is less sure about a Civic Type R reaching these shores.
"A Civic Type R will do 1,000 units, whereas a Civic Si will do 20,000 units. And it's the 20,000 we're after, not the 1,000. It's very expensive to do a Type R, because changing the ride height affects its crash-test results," Elliott said.
A separate federalization process would cost millions of dollars. For a low-volume, low-cost car such as the Civic, that makes it hard for Honda to recoup its costs.
"The Civic Si is close enough, and it's a good starting point to go to the aftermarket tuners," Elliott said. He added: "Then again, a Type R is an even better starting point."

Someone please explain this to me. Europe and Asia usualy get the better cars (type-r's) right. Ok, why. Is it government restrictions or crash test ratings or what. You would think that European and Asian countries would also have them so what gives.
I can see it from there standpoint. But why do they estimate so low. I think more than 1000 people would buy a type r. And who told them to bring an Si here in the first place. Nobody wants that over a Type R.

You think the US has it bad! We can't even get half the toys for our rides over here. It gets real hard to find the gear you need and another thing...
Why the hell can't the US and Canada share the same name for the Civic...
You have EX - we have Si
You have Si - we have SiR
What gives...same damn car, different names!

well that fvckin sucks.
Oh well, i guess I'll just save up the extra and wait for the RSX-R. This is a huge mistake for honda, btw. Their popularity seems to be on the way down with the latest generation of the civic, and they could've saved it with the R, IMO.
