ticket...what should i do?
i just got my 3rd speeding ticket today in just half a yr
my first one was half a year ago like in sept 2001. i was going 87 in a 65 zone. i was not eligable for traffic school. my second one was like 2 months ago. was going 47 in a 30 zone. i went to traffic school for this one. this time i got 87 in a 65 zone again!!! he found my speed through a radar. i'm not ignorant or anything about the law, but it was an open 2 lane straight road down 101 south. the cop caught me on the opposite side of traffic. anyway...i dont think i'm eligable for traffic school this time because its within 18 month period from the last time i went to traffic school. my question is...what am i asking for when i go to court? is it still possible to ask for traffic school? any advice or help would be really appreciated. thanks!

Back home (STL) we have a place called the traffic law center that fixes speeding tix for a fee of course. Check around to see if there are any lawyers in the area with that type of specialty. I have had speeding tickets reduced to non-moving violations with no points before. Check around...
In my state, New York State, any subsequent offense of the same violation within an 18 month period requires a manditory personal appearance to the court. That is, you may not plead by mail. I am not sure if this applies to your state, you will have to determine that. Both your privledge to operate a motor vehicle and your insurance rate is at risk. There is a very, very good chance you will get dropped or have an extreme increase in your premium rate. There is also a chance you could end up with a license suspension. Make a personal appearance and see if anything can be done. I do not think traffic school will be offered, instead, talk to the prosecutor about a possible plea arrangement. It is very unlikely, but the prosecutor might be in a good mood...

Is this an attorney or legal service? I'm not aware of anybody (but cops, the court or DA) that can squash a summons once it's been issued.
with 2 other tickets within half a year theres not much u can do. when u take it to court and the judge pulls up ur record and sees 2 previous tickets not much will please him. i dunno what the laws are like wehre ur from, but u might just take it to court, say why u were speeding ( pleed guilty with explanation ) and hope for the juddge to give u a PBJ ( probation b4 judgement ) or lower the speed for less points.

right now i have one point on my record, because my second violation should be erased because i went to traffic school for it. i dont think the court should know that i have two violations.

Good luck on this one! I think you are pretty much sol! The DA will pull your driving record when and if you go to court. When the judge finds out about your previous tickets, you may as well forget about getting a lesser charge. I'm 24 and had my fair share of recks and tickets in my teens. Take it from me, slow down! It'll save you thousands of dollars in insurance payments.
ok, so you didnt learn your lesson the first time, you didnt learn your lesson the second time.....now the third time.......maybe its time to SLOW THE F$#K DOWN! after two speeding tickets in the amount of time that you had, dont you think you would have figured out that you dont have the greatest luck with cops, and that maybe its time to drive a lil more responisbly?

try following 5 over rule/10 over limit (15 over limit on highways) always drive at least 5 over the limit (obviously unless conditions are really bad or something) but dont go more than 10 over (driving exactly 10 over is okay, thats what i do) on highways you can go up to 15 over, but i would recommend going 14 over if you want to drive fast, that way if say they are looking for people over 70 in a 55, and you are doing 69, youre probably pretty safe. i do all that and ive never been pulled over for speeding
man do i feel you, i got some friends that have had the same problem and california cops suck ***! they got the best techniques on getting people, as for getting traffic school for this one i dont think its gonna happen man, just cause our traffic system sucks, have you heard of the three point system in california?
Both California and New York cops are pretty much the same.
Nick, offenses are commonly classified into three categories, felony, misdemeanor and violation, in order of severity.
Felony--those offenses which can carry a prison sentence of one year or more. The most serious types of crimes fall within this category.
Misdemeanor--those offenses which can carry a jail sentence of up to one year. These are intermediate offenses.
Violation--those offenses which can carry a fine and/or up to fifteen days in jail. Note that most traffic offenses in New York are considered infractions, and therefore are less than a violation.
Also note that jail and prison are not the same thing. A jail is used to hold subjects not eligibile/unable to post bail until trial -or- those who have been convicted of a misdemeanor and have been sentenced up to one year. They are typically operated by a county. A prison can be state or federal operated and houses those who have been sentenced one year or more and have been convicted of a felony offense.
