Smile to flush or not to flush

I just bought a 2003 honda civic lx with 170,000 miles on it. It has a automatic transmission, and gets stuck in gears and will not shift. I don't know if the transmission fluid has ever ben changed.Should i do a flush, or will this just do more damage ?

Re: to flush or not to flush

Probably needs a new tranny. At this point its so late in the game you might as well leave it until you can get yourself a new one.

Any trans codes?

flushing it wouldnt do more damage, but it would be futile (and a waste of money) if the trannys bad. i'd have her looked at.

You really got nothing to lose.. except money. It might help but if the tranny is bad, then it won't fix the problem. :/

Re: to flush or not to flush

is the shifter itself getting stuck going from P to R or D or the actual car shifting while already in D? any engine light? flashing D indicator? sounds more like some other issue, possibly a misaligned TPS sensor which can feel as bad or worse than a messed trans.
