open windows create drag.. a LOT of drag. Youd be dumb to race with them down.
A/C takes power from the engine to run the compressor, HOWEVER, in 99% of new cars, the computer disengages the compressor if the car is under WOT (flooring it).
Neons are uberghae. You should keep them turned off.

I'd be surprised if the Civic didn't disengage the A/C compressor and alternator at WOT like Joe pointed out. Still I do the same thing cause I'm paranoid and I KNOW the FOcus does.
if im serious bout a race...like some dude thinkin he is bad ill shutdown whole car roll up windows etc etc. But if im racin my friends or just havin good time...windows down, music up....woot!!

<< sunroof as downforce...?? does that work? >>
Maybe slightly, but our cars probably slow down from this more than they speed up because of the drag. To speed up you need traction and acceleration. Our car will never have the acceleration to warrant more downforce. I still don't understand why drag cars use spoilers that aren't shaped like an upside down wing. Maybe those that they use now create more downforce than an inverted wing would? More drag too probably, but they have horsepower to spare. It's all about traction in drag racing.

If you hit the gas, and then turn the AC off, you can actually feel the tiny bit of extra power kick in. At least I can.

on old cars they would draw heat in directly from the engine bay. thus turning on the heater would vent off some of the underhood heat. this is no longer the case with modern cars.
As for the question, "does raising the sunroof create downforce?" the answer is no. Go ahead and open up your sunroof while your driving at say... 80 MPH on the freeway. Then stick your hand straight up untill you feel the full effect of the wind resistance. I garuntee you that you wont encounter said resistance untill you get up past 3 or 4 " above your roofline. More simply put, the air that is being deflected up over the hood of your car, then onto and over the windshield, is being pushed up higher over the top of the car then the sunroof will reach. This means that there will be a low pressure area for the first few inches above your roofline at speed, making any wind resistance gained by said sunroof null and void, not that it would create anything that would be effective in any way.. anyway.

I thought that the heating system works on the concept of a heat exchanger? The heat exchanger gets heated by the engine's coolant. Why would it be any different? What, you think there's an electric heating element? Maybe. Although I don't think heat comes on right away when you want it. It takes a while for the engine to warm up, that's why I think we have a heat exchanger. Well, that and I think there's something in the manual about cooling down the car by putting the heat on full blast and opening your windows. I think? Maybe I read that somewhere else though.

well when i race sometimes i tilt the sunroof up and cick the outside air button to let the heat run thru the car naturally with out using the fan and i guess it is the same concept as using the fan jsut saving energy.
