The real deal on the Si
Well, I finally went to the dealership on Friday and ordered me a brand new 2002 Si. I dont know about everybody else out there, but I'm excited. Not only am I excited about buying a new car, but I'm excited about the potential of the Si. Many people out there say they're disapointed with this or that and especially the power. I mean yeah 160hp and 132tqe isnt the best in the world, but you have to look past that to see what this car can be.
Did anybody realize that engine parts between the Si, RSX, RSX type-S, RSX-R and CTR are interchangeable? I mean they all have subtle differences, but they are essentially the same. Barring all the little details all you have to do to make an Si run mid 14s is to get R pistons, R head and ECU. They have basically the same block. I mean you spend 2 or 3 grand at most and you have a 227hp hatchback!!! I hardly think thats anything to sneeze at. Plus thats stock with no bolt-ons! If you've ever been in a RSX with an intake, I think you know the potential of the VTEC-i. But you say you dont like the 5-speed close ratio tranny and you cant get the RSX-R because of the shifter location......the New CTR has a 6-speed just for the job. Even if you didnt want to bump up to the R pieces, there will be numerous after market parts for this great motor, that will make it a monster.
If you really want to get into potential, look no further than the new CR-V. 2.4L VTEC-i, 162tqe. Need I say the new version of the Frankenstein motor.........
Think about that for a moment and then make sure to look twice at the New Si.

Hey, go easy on the newbie
He's just excited about his new car, like we all were when we got ours.
Good luck with your new 2k2 Si, borland. What color did you get?

Dont worry, I know how to use the search function. I just dont think it was represented right. Maybe it is the excitement talking
I ordered a white one and its gotten so bad, Im having dreams about it. I guess its just hard for me to see how so many people bash it. Ive been looking into it for a while and took a good month to decide upon it. I currently own an EK Hatch and was planning to drop a b16 in it. But having started off with a Chevy Cavalier, I was a little torque deprived. (Plus I missed having power everything and a sunroof ) Maybe I over shot it on this one, but I just had to make sure that everybody read my 2 cents first in the post

Oh yeah, I will be selling the front seats very soon after purchase, but Im not looking to trade (I want some sparcos) Gotta love the red seats in a white car.
i know the car has potential, but i dunno if i could justify 19000 on that car........ i mean for 1500 less you could get a faster SER spec V with 17s and all, and with upcoming NISMO usa parts,....so i im considering both of these cars maybe....still researching

Its really all a matter of preference. All cars have their ups and downs. The SE-R is a really nice car. Im just addicted to Honda. I mean those 2 cars are basically in the same category, but are totally different when it gets down to it. The upside to both isnt gonna be realized until down the road a ways, so its kinda like running blind-folded at this point. The 2 things I like the most about the SE-R though are the 6-speed and the differential. I would love to have those, but I guess you cant win them all. Maybe you should wait a little bit for some more cars that youre interested in to get hooked up and you can decide a little closer to what you plan to do in the future. the only thing that turns me off about the new si is the exterior, i wish they stuck the coupe like the 99-00 si. the interior is hot, and the engine is nice, what else would you expect them to put in there? the rsx-s 200hp engine? also, why do people complain about the price, i wouldn't buy one becuase i dont like the looks, but the $19,000 price tag isn't bad(mark up price is bad though). think about, the ex costs about $17,750 new for a coupe, and i think $500 more for the sedan, pay $1000 or so more, and get an si with its nice interior, more hp, alloy wheels, and i bet, a better aftermarket support.
It never should have been a coupe in '99-'00. Now everyone's whining because they want a Si coupe. TOO BAD! If you don't like it, don't buy it, but I'm getting sick of hearing "it should've been a coupe". Not flaming any one person, I'm just sick of hearing that.

I agree that the exterior isnt for everybody. And they would never put the rsx motor in there because theyre trying to avoid too many cars in the same niche. But the exterior you can get past with the help of the aftermarket. REDFOG, youre right about it not being a coupe for 99-00. Look at the brochure for the new si, they have all the previous one in a row and theyre all HB's and then theres last model. Looks really outta place. Still an excellent car, just not the same I guess. Thank god theres some people out there with good sense.
In your personall experience don't you think that the Si looks a little too "big". I mean the engine is tight but I don't really like the exterier design of it. To me it looks like a compressed oddesy. Then again I wasn't pleased with the look of the 7th gen civics, but I got used to them.

I was real close to trading for the si as well. I didn't do it because I have a family and the trunk is tiny at best. I don't think the outside is fugly, just a little feminine(sp?) looking imo. Plus, I just got to good of a deal on my sedan to not keep it.
I don't know how many cars that I thought were fugly when they just came out only to fall in love with them later.
Did anyone see the article in one of the import mags on the si? Seems like a remember someone doing some dyno runs w/ an aftermarket intake and exhaust and getting an additional 15hp to the wheels. I just can't remember where I read it.

The exterior is definitely one that has to grow on you. And yes it is much bigger than the last HB, I should know, I currently own an EK. But thats the way the civic has gone in case you havent noticed. I say dont worry to all of you who dont really like it, just let the aftermarket take care of all the gripes
who cares if they shouldnt have made a 99-00 coup si.. Honda did.. an alot of us loved it.. sorry if we wanted them to continue making them coups....
congrats on your purchase though

I like how they did the exterior and didn't copy other cars.
I can beat my friend in his SE-R, so I'd say the Si is pretty fast in stock condition, with just an intake I can see the HP going up atleast 10, it gave 12hp to the RSX-s.
