Looking for the right Civic!

How's it goin everyone? I am in the process of looking for a Honda Civic, and I have a few in mind, and I am hoping you guys can help me! I'm new to the Honda world and i'd love some advice.

This is a 94 Honda Civic. It only has 50k miles and it's a nice little car, however I still worry about the age of the car.>> http://uwantwheels.erfenzhawaiiyi.co.../15068166.html

Here's a 95 Honda, and I love the look and the fact that it's a 4 door. The mileage isn't that bad either, however it still is kinda old. Price isn't bad imo either. >>> http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/ctd/2524681187.html

This 99 Honda is really clean. Mileage is decent and it's a decent year too.

And here's an 04 Honda and I like the fact it's a newer car plus the mileage isn't bad either. It's a cool looking car even though I like the looks of the others. But this one is CLEAN. http://www.carweek.com/dealer_listin...scapeHeader=No

If you guys can tell me what you think of these, or perhaps some advice on getting a Honda, please let me know! Hopefully when I get a Honda, I can continue to post here more often so I can learn a lot more from you guys.

Btw, my price range is 4500-6500. I can push 7000 if I need to.

Anyways, thanks a lot!

Re: Looking for the right Civic!

get the 2004.

the 01+ are better for a daily driver. newer interior, better brakes, great suspension, fun to drive, harder to steal.

especially if u are/around LA.

Well I made a few calls. Here's the situation..

The 04 is a salvage. (I thought it might be cuz the price was a LITTLE bit too good to be true)

The 95 is a salvage as well HOWEVER, it was because of the inside. The frame wasn't damaged, no engine problems, it was strictly the interior. PLUS I can get a warranty on it as well.

The 99 and 94 are the clean titles.

I was kinda thinking since the 99 and 95 are similar price and mileage, would be to tell the dealer of the 95 that I am interested, however i have the civic 99 in mind, and the only way I would choose the 99 over the civic is to him putting a warranty on the car.

Whacha think?

Re: Looking for the right Civic!

did u ask him why it was salvaged? the 04 i mean.

if it is a rear end damage, then you'll be ok. if it is a front end damage, the NO.

The problem with salvage titles is I can only get liability. And with a 2004, I might get screwed over if someone totals the car. But anywho..

I'll ask about the salvage tomorrow when they reopen.

Can you tell me the cons about the other cars? I kinda been leaning on the 99, or the 95 w/warranty.

Btw, why is rear damage ok? I just had my Chrysler 300 take rear damage and it ruined the frame making it a salvage.

I really am liking the 99 or the 95. Why wouldn't those be good ideas?

Re: Looking for the right Civic!

Don't buy salvage whatever you do. And that includes rear end damage. Even if the frame is pulled out, the metal is about 10X more likely to rust. Believe me... I owned a salvage car for a couple years.

Its just the fact that theyre that much older, and you can tell when you sit in them. The 04 is a much more modern interior.

The 95 has dropped $1000 to $3995. I am really leaning towards this car... Yes it is a 95, but it still only has 113k miles, it's a nice car, PLUS since I have $6500 to mess with, I will around $1500-2000 JUST in case I need it for the car.. I called and talked to the dealership and he told me I can test drive, look at the engine do whatever I want.

Whacha guys think? Anyone give me any pros and cons? Any questions I should ask? I know these Honda's run good since my Fiance has a 94 and her car runs like a champ, and I have a few friends as well that have mid 90 Honda's that run good.

Re: Looking for the right Civic!

UPDATE: I went to test drive the 95.. For a commuter, it's a great car, but the acceleration is really slow. I know it's because of the 4 cyl, but it's still a lot slower than I expected it to be..

As of now, i'm REALLY leaning towards the 99 Honda Civic. http://www.carweek.com/dealer_listin...scapeHeader=No

It only has 104k miles, got a 3 month warranty, its super clean, it's a clean title, and it's 5499. Im going to test drive it tomorrow hopefully, but so far, this is what i'm leaning on.

Re: Looking for the right Civic!

I'm so jealous of people who don't have winters.

Both those cars look amazing!

I have a 6th gen - 99 Civic and it handles like no car I've ever driven. My daily drive is a mountain highway that includes a set of uphill S curves, a set of downhill S curves and 4 major elevation changes. The 6th gen was made for that kind of driving. I don't really know anything about the 5th gens - 'the '95' so hard to comment on that.

Mainly I'd be looking for signs that either car had been abused. Having a look underneath is usually a good place to start. Uneven tire wear, dented oil pans, exhaust system and hangers, dented underbody all good things to look for.

Signs of leaking around the tappet cover and head. Although both the cars look detailed so the engines have probably been shampooed and the oil changed, so hard to check for oil/leakage problems.

I saw this car and it looked REALLY nice.. I'm thinking about checking it out later this week.

I got the VIN but does anyone know a place where I can check it's history for free? Everyone charges up the rear for the history!

But I really like this car..

Re: Looking for the right Civic!

call your honda dealership and give them the VIN. They'll give you as much info as they have on it for free.
