STUPID REAR WINGS: THE NEW VIRUS!!!!!
Stupid and usefull rear wings are becoming a real virus. They put rear wings on Corolla, Sunbird, Neon, SUV, Cavalier, Suzuki, Echo, Accent, Tibby... etc. Only real hi class cars ( Bmw, Mercedes, Ferrari, Lamborghini...) doesn't have those usefull things. Everybody here want a car that looks good and different, but many want those stupid wings. You really want to be different: Say no to those rear wings. Rep Power: 0 Maestro... I have to agree.... I think it's sad to say, but it show's a "touch of class" when you decide NOT to put one of those things on your car... But I have to admit, after a while of wanting to customize your car, the urge to put as outrageous a wing as possible starts to sink in... hehehe

Rep Power: 0 What do you mean by "those stupid rear wings" If you mean an owner of a corolla putting a big @$$ aluminum wing on their car, I totally agree. But if you are referring to the OEM wings and others for our civics I must disagree... I think those spoilers are stylish and really "make" the car.

2: They probably don't even provide much downforce
BTW for anyone who doesn't know, the point of a spoiler is to provide downforce on the tires. If you get your car going fast enough (over approx 200 mph, our cars will NEVER do it) the air moves faster over the top of your car than under the bottom, thereby making the air pressure lower on top. This causes a tendency for the car to actually lift off of the ground. A "wing" (actually called a spoiler because is "spoils" the wind) forces the wind to slow down and in some cases forces it up, both of which will provide downforce. This is why the spoilers on some Porshes don't flip up until the car hits a certain speed: because they aren't needed at lower speeds.
On another note, though, I think that the OEM spoilers, for example, are not radical at all. They actually make the car look good, IMHO. The huge ones, though, are a waste of money and weight, unless you've gotten your car to go over 200 mph or so, and even then, most of the huge ones you see wouldn't actually do much in terms of spoiling wind and producing downforce

Rep Power: 0 I've got nothing against discussion, but when you start a post "STUPID REAR WINGS: THE NEW VIRUS !!!" and state "Only real hi class cars ( Bmw, Mercedes, Ferrari, Lamborghini...) doesn't have those usefull things".... some people take that as talking $hit, not trying to have a discussion. And for the record, there is a model of Ferrari that has a spoiler and the Lamborghini Countach had not only a rear wing, but a front one as well. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and the reason why car manufacturers are putting spoilers on their cars... people are buying them! On some cars, they make the back end a little more stylish and less dull. You look good, not only coming, but going as well. [IMG]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/IMG]

I don't want to say that cars with OEM wings are ugly. Customs cars with no wings are simply more originals.

Rep Power: 0 poor newbie.. you'll find that sometimes you get people like maestro that write in the forums just to try to cause some chaos. I never submitted to this. I am purely stating the facts... I said that you should do what you want to your car. Obviously I know that people have varying opinons on spoilers and wings, but it is when maestro says... "those stupid wings". I have a wing on my car, if he calls my wing stupid it is the same(to me) as calling me stupid. You dont go and critiicize people's rides for what mods they have done on them... the car reflects a person's individualality. Maestro I'm sorry If I'm being unoriginal because I put a wing on my car. If you want to start a debate about a topic, go about it another way... this instigator came in here trying to start a fight over one of the most common auto parts....
