One cylinder with no compression?
Hey Guys,
I have a 2000 honda civic LX with a stock 1.6, no modifications. The car has just recently acquired 80k miles and about a month ago I noticed a total lag in the acceleration, and a downgrade in the power overall. I compression tested all of the cylinders, they all have a normal compression EXCEPT FOR ONE. The one without compression showed no compression on either the dry or wet test. Therefore leading me to believe that there's a problem with the valves surrounding that cylinder. So, I recently took the cylinder head off last week and when I finally managed to do so, I noticed that the top of the piston inside that one cylinder had been seared and the top of the piston is charcoal black. I'm going to have the head rebuilt soon. Does anyone have any input or intel? Would a head rebuild solve this issue? Why is the piston top black? If anyone could help out I'd very much appreciate it. black means carbon build up from unburned fuel, I would have tried a little oil in the cylinder for a second compression check, or put the cylinder to TDC on the compression stroke and put compressed air in the cylinder those are the two best ways to check for combustion loss
