DX to Ex conversion

Hello everyone new to this board. Looking for some help in switching my Dx over to Ex with the Vtec. I'm not to familiar with engines and need some clarification on a few things. I got a 1999 dx coupe with the D16Y8 NON VTEC. The motor got like 240k on it and buying a JPM engine to replace and was thinking about going with a vtec engine instead of base model.

My question is if i go with the vtec will it be a direct replacement or will I need to purchase the ECU and harness also for the vtec seperately? Is there anything else i will need for the conversion?

Okay, I thought that might be the case.

You need the wiring harness and ecu, they're different on the D16y8.

Re: DX to Ex conversion

The internal dash on the D16y8 model has the IN-DASH RPM Tachometer will I need to install an EXTERNAL Tach to keep CPU clean of any red lights due to no connection of the INDASH Tach?

Re: DX to Ex conversion

No, you already have the wiring for a tach sitting behind your cluster in reality there's just no tac on your cluster.
