I need to replace the Thermostat in an 01 civic sedan lx, where is the thermostat itself located at? Have anyone replace their thermostat please point me to the right direction. Is it easy to replace? Thanks in advance

Re: replace thermostat?

yes, its on the left side of ur engine. there are two bolts. take them both out and ur good.

make sure u buy a new gasket as well. go to ur autozone.

actual thermstat:

gasket:
http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par..._188054_12885_

thats wt it looks like.

NOTES: MAKE SURE UR ENGINE IS COOL AND THE COOLANT IS NOT HOT. or else when u open it up, it will explode in ur face. KA BOOM. i take no responsibility for your actions, stupidity or lack of common sense.

TOOLS needed:
10mm socket
some coolant

DIY:

remove the radiator cap to release any pressure and to check if the coolant is not HOT (on the radioator, this is the same cap u will pour coolant into).

here is the area the thermostat is located:

its the little dome thing. you need to open it. the thermostat is in there.

first, unplug the sensor:

then there are two bolts holding the thermostat cover down. unscrew these bolts

first bolt:

second bolt:

take out the old thermostat and install the new thermostat.

install the new gasket (you should replace the old one, if not, its ok, ur car isnt gonna blow up)

install the cover

plug in the sensor.

top the radiator off with new coolant.

drive around for a bit... then WHEN YOUR ENGINE COMPLETELY COOLS, top off some more coolant.

grab a beer.

Re: replace thermostat?

Easy as hell to replace.

Follow your lower radiator hose to the engine block. It connects to the thermostat cover. Make sure you bleed your coolant system well after replacing it.
