why are u installing it in ur car??? for mp3's i think it woudl be alot easier to just get an mp3 deck. and for gaming the ps2 is much better than any computer just because of the controls.

<< It will be in my car whenever I'm in my car...so why isn't it "especially" for my car? Will have a quick release "station".
Sov82 >>
PM me if you find a quick release station for it. I as well would like to use my latop in the car. GPS would come in handy.
Yes, I too would be interested in the quick release. My patrol car has something like that, a docking station that hangs over the console that houses the siren and lights control unit, and the mobile radio. I'd like to be able to run registrations while in my Civic...
That's the whole point of a quick release setup. You can take it with you, or secure it in the trunk of the vehicle. Obviously, I don't have to take mine out of the cop car, because you have to be on crack to steal something out of a police car, but for a regular car, you can simply take it off the quick release.

Will do...QCK, do you have a car adapter for your laptop in your patrol car...know where I can get one?...or is it even possible, I'm not sure of the voltage on a laptop battery.

Where the wall plug would go, a little thing plugs in that comes out of the console. It is 12V hardwired into the car. At the begining of the shift, you go into the car, plug the power cord in, and then put another plug in that runs to through the mobile radio/cellular modem that goes to a roof antenna. As far as I know, the fleet services division for my department orders the cigarette lighter style plugs for the laptop and then cuts off the cigarette lighter end, hardwiring it in. Call up the company that made your laptop and ask if they have cigarette lighter adapters.

Laptop? That's the weak way out
I built my own computer and put it under my seat...beat that suckers!
Its a 1ghz amd tbird with 128mb of ram, 20 gig hd, audigy sound card...
I have everything running off of the computer from music, to gps and dvd. Have the LCD screen mounted into the dash. Beat that
The hardest part was getting sound directly from the computer to the amps...but I solved that with some thinking
I wonder how I match up with Derek's setup
I know he has a huge screen in the dash (like 10"), but I don't know how his setup is rigged...
Oh yeah...all work was done by me including the building of a custom cause to fit it under the driver seat

This is a picture of what the interior of the police car looks like. That black platform is what the laptop goes into and those plugs on the back attach to the rear of the computer. Below it are the controls for the lights, traffic advisor, siren, and two different police radios.

<< WhosYoDaddy: DC 2 DC Power Supply? >>
Yes...your computer actually uses a variation of volts, but it uses 12volts DC internally. Your powersupply for your computer converts that DC voltage to AC so you can plug it in to your home outlet. A DC-DC power supply would let you connect your computer directly to any 12V DC source (car electrical)....does that help any?
