Fire extinquisher placement?
Hey people, just wanted to ask for opinions on where I should put my fire extinquisher? I had it on the passenger side pillar, but took it off. Where should I put it? I want it to be seen if possible. Thanks

what was wrong with the passenger door pillar? i think, if you're gonna have a fire extinguisher, that's a great place for it cause it's very visible and accessible in the unlikely event that you need it. otherwise, i would suggest on the rear floor right in the middle or under the passenger dash.
passenger door pilar is rice because of one thing...
if you're driver, how easy is it to lean, fumble, and remove when you're in a hot smokey cabin? And what if it is an interior electrical fire? I always recommend putting it in the trunk... That way you can get out of the danger area and carry a higher capacity device

exactly how is a fire extinguisher "rice"? i may be the first one to shout "rice!" to a lot of the tacky so-called-performance parts, but a fire extinguisher?! what's next, is my first-aid kit gonna be rice? oh, right, only if it has blue band-aids... geez, give the guy a break!
flatlander, i'd suggest putting it under the driver's seat somehow... or maybe on the underside of the dash, the part that slopes upwards toward you, close to the door -- like right above the dead pedal/footrest thing (in my auto, anyways)... glovebox might work too... there's millions of places to put it (cupholder? lol), but if it were me i'd want it in a not-too-obvious place... mounting it in the middle of the dash would be a little TOO obnoxious trunk is a good idea too (for a high-capacity extinguisher), but i'd want one in the cabin (maybe even in addition to one in the trunk for larger fires) to be able to quickly put out some small flames that started from a dipsh*t passenger dropping a cigarette or something. regardless, fire extinguishers are NOT rice, even on the A-pillars. well, unless you run a tube from the nozzle to the firewall and put a "NOS" sticker on it

I don't understand the point needing a fire extinguisher in your ride. Is it only for style? If a fire were to break out (typically in the engine) you wouldn't be able to put it out with such a small extinguisher.

I leave mine in my apartment until I attend a car show. Then I display it in my trunk with my first aid kit. I really dont see a reason for you to drive around with it mounted in your car, it looks ridiculous. I could see having it if it was a race car but its not....Its a honda civic. If you are going to put it in your car, mount it in your trunk...where no one will see it. It will save you plenty of embarrasment

i agree with civicdude there is no real reason to have one unless its for a car show or something like that. everyone knows people only have them for looks like who the hell is gonna be calm enough if there is a fire in their interiror to reach over grab the fire extinguisher and put the fire out. also i think its reallly really really impossible for ur car to catch on fire.

first-aid kit = practical
fire extinguisher in honda civic = completely unnecessary

So what do you guys do when you see another car on the side of the road with a fire? You just gonna keep driving by or help them out? Just because our cars don't have a reputation for car fires, it dosn't mean that there can't be a fire. Do you not wear your seatbelts because 7th gens have a 5 star rating? I didn't think so.
Of course, if you don't put out a car fire in the first minute or so, any portable fire extinguisher isn't gonna do sheit.

crap! My friend has a Focus . Anyone got the DIY on how to mount a fire extinguisher?
If you see another car on fire in the middle of the road, call 911 and let the professionals handle it. Are you seriously going to run over with your little 20 lb. can and try to put it out? Mounting a fire extinguisher in your car is ridiculous and tacky - not to mention potentially dangerous too. If you mount the extinguisher anywhere near head height, it immediately becomes a 20 lb. steel high-speed projectile if you are involved in a car crash.
actually we sprayed my friends and it shot stuff out...when he came out and there was white stuff all over his NBP 2k1 he wiped some with his finger, smelled it, and just said "Hmph, crack."
