Checked out a 2003 Toyota Corolla CE today.
The rear suspension is weird. I don't think it's independent. Something called "torsion beam rear suspension". The CE is comparable to the LX, but if I had a choice betwean the 2002 Honda Civic LX Sedan and the 2003 Toyota Corolla CE, then I think I'de go with the Toyota. MSRP for a 2002 Honda Civic LX Sedan is $15,550 while the MSRP for a 2003 Toyota Corolla CE is $13,855.
Slightly more power from a slightly larger displacement. The interior is slightly smaller. It gets better gas mileage according to Edmunds.com It has a CD player. It has a whole bunch of little features that make it slightly better. Rear cut holder, dual power outlets, etc. The door handles are like a Jetta's (European styling, but they also feel more solid). It has a little antenna in the back (European style too).
Anyway, Honda better come up with some improvements for the 2003 Civic or sales are going to drop and people will start buying up Corolla's instead.

When buying a car, you get what you pay for.......that's all I'm gonna say about that. Also, isn't the CE the base model? If so, you've got to add some things to that price(i.e. air conditioning) Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that part.
Anyway's I never follow the MSRP's because they really don't mean anything, until you negotiate with the dealership. I have alos seen the corolla and yeah it's nice but at least with the civic you have a choice of a coupe or a sedan, and the toyota only comes in a sedan. In all the Honda and Toyota similarily equiped will probably be very close in price.

Dang, this i gonna suck, when u see more done up Corolla's than civic's, DOnt mine me i just have athing against Toyota's because me and my friend, have this Toyota vs. Honda Rivalry
Looked at a 2001 Toyota Corolla S when shopping for a car. It was the same price of the Ex and came with a lot more goodies. Suspension was better too. I don't know why I chose the Civic, I guess because I thought it was all redesigned and new while the Corolla platform was old. Oh well. Both good cars.

nice but ......dont know about tha toyota and it's tha first year so for sure there are gonna be some recalls....
but since i bought a car out of tha blue i think that i would have gotten one of those still over the civic since the civic
is so popular would have loved to drive a car for a bit being the only one with it .....and to play around with it see how much
nicer i can get it ....
it's a nice car tho.....think i'm gonna go and test drive one soon.......maybe even see what i can maybe i can trade in my 2k2 civic for one at the end of summer
but hey tha civic hasn't done nothing wrong with me just hate driving ANYWHERE and seeing the same car all over the place

The corolla is nice but it looks like an older persons car, like 40s or something imo. Do they have any aftermarket support? Anyhow, I am a loyal honda consumer. I have had several hondas of my own and in the immediate family, have all proven to be unbelievable cars and it would take nothing short of a miracle to make me buy a toyota. I think that you would find a substantial amount of honda owners would feel the same way.
I am chose a civic over a celica, but in part because they wanted $450 a month for a celica and I got my EX at $315. I like honda better anyway, but once I have enough dough for a Lexus it's on!
i can guarantee toyota wont have the problems honda had in the first year of the newly designed car. I still think the civic looks better, but thats the only plus the civic has on the corolla.
That corolla even has leather as a factory option! and oh yeah, its factory sound is about 50x better than our factory sound system, mind you not too many people keep those anyways, but you gotta look at it becasue you are paying for the whole package. The corolla is cheaper than the civic and toyotas finance and lease rates are almost the same as hondas.
If i had the choice again, I honestly dont know which car I'd go with, I think I'd go with the Corolla becasue you dont see as many done up corollas on the roads and its motor is just sweetness, thats the same engine used in the formula atlantic racing series, that lil engine with modded internals spits out 240 hp and thats all motor. Thats the DOHC advantage......

i bought my 2k2 ex coupe auto in january, and at the time, the 2k3 corolla wasn't out yet. the older body corolla looked to bland and i didn't like it at all. so i bought the civic coupe. then i saw the 2k3 corolla, i was in disbelief, the styling, both in and out, is very nice, extremely improved from last years model. if i were going for a compact sedan, that one would be it, awesome gas mileage, and looks great (better than the civic sedan IMHO). there is one thing wierd about, its not that wide. if you look at the new corolla dead on from the front or the rear, it looks kinda tall, and the car looks kinda pushed in from the sides, its hard to explain, just looked wierd, thats all.
on a side note, i saw the commercial for the 2k3 civic hybrid on tv last night, gas mileage is lower than i thought, 41 city and 53 hwy i believe, i thought i read in car and driver that its gonna be 59city/62hwy, maybe i misread. only thing is, its gonna be slow, i believe it has 68hp.
