Warning From Allstate Insurance
Keep all windows rolled up when stopped at traffic lights,
as only cars with windows down are being targeted.
Groups of teenagers have been caught, in alarming numbers,
playing a new and dangerous game called
Spunkball!
Spunkball consists of a group of teens in a car pulling up to a
stoplight, and looking around for a car stopped near by with an open
window.
When one is spotted, the teens shout, "Spunkball", and throw a
gasoline soaked rag that has been wrapped in aluminum foil through
the open window. On the outside of the foil attached a small
firecracker, with the fuse lit. When the firecracker explodes, it
shreds the foil, and the rag is ignited, causing a large flame that may catch the interior of the car on fire.
Spunkball playing has already claimed two lives, caused
uncountable injuries due to burns, and caused thousands of dollars
in damage to automobiles. The best defense, say authorities, is to keepall windows rolled up when stopped at traffic lights, as only cars with windows down are being targeted.
If you are at a red light and hear a shout of "Spunkball", and
notice something come flying in your window, the best thing to do is
to have all passengers immediately exit the vehicle. DO NOT
try to retrieve the object, as it will ignite once the firecracker
explodes.
PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO EVERYONE YOU CARE ABOUT.

Rep Power: 0 That's the first of that I've heard yet...I would have read about it on the teletype if it occured in my department or in a neighboring area. If someone did try that with me, or someone else and I happened to see it, they'd be real sorry...

Rep Power: 0 Well, I'll just say this much...I'd probably have the Glock 23 handy (to stop the subjects engaged in the commission of the crime, of course), I'd be calling in an officer needs assistance through my cell phone, and I'd be trying my best to stop and arrest the people that did it...as far as hurting someone for doing it...you can use "reasonable force" to stop someone who committed or is in the commission of a crime.
BTW, my Sgt said this entire thing isn't true and has been on the internet for about 2 years now...

Rep Power: 0 Yeah I was hearing that awhile ago, but good thing we have a inside hook up to let us know if this is happening. But I live in a nice neighborhood here in Arizona and now all of a sudden we are having massive car break ins and now they are breaking into houses so someone who trys to break in here will have a good surprise.

Rep Power: 0 windows rolled up when stopped at traffic lights." Sounds unprofessional... let along the whole first paragraph. If it was a business letter, there wouldn't be any exclaimation marks for this new fad called... "Spunkball!" And the way it ended makes it sound like a false alarm. An Insurance Company would never tell their clients to pass on an E-mail to "the world" when this isn't even something that's been heard of around the US. Imbeciles...

Techincally (legally) you cant do anything if some kid threw one of those spunkballs into your car. If it was a single act and they drive away you cant go after them and beat their a$$e$.
as far as hurting someone for doing it...you can use "reasonable force" to stop someone who committed or is in the commission of a crime.
For a felony in progress you can use the adequate force needed to stop the activity.
They would have to be holding your doors shut or something after they threw the spunkball in for you to (in self defense) kick their a$$e$, to preserve your own life and/or those around you.
Example: If some guy walked up and punches you and then walks away you're not legally allowed to chase him down and punch him back. It was a single act that doesnt warrant retaliation or self defense.
At least thats the force continuim I was taught in the academy.
