Possibly buying an 89 Skyline GTS-t
Re: Possibly buying an 89 Skyline GTS-t
300zx parts fitting a Skyline? i dont know either as i basically brand new to the skyline scene myself,
11,500 is cheap for this car modded out, its only 4 hours from where i live so i can pick it up myself, but from montreal? wow! that would cost a fortune to get it shipped to where im at?
over-rated? why is that....cuz ive always wanted one for many years now?
or cuz has 212BHP/195.4 lb-ft TQ coming from a I6, DOHC, 28V, T28 Turbo & intercooler & 8.5:1 compression? what else....the brakes can handle anything you throw at them with good fluid, oh....and the suspension is tuned very well!
this does not come out of a stock Honda? lol
lets talk about insurance rates too....my Civic is costing me 120.00/mo, the Skyline is 87.00/mo so im saving money as i go too.

I could give two ***** how long you've wanted it. I've seen and driven an RHD R32, just like that one. I wasn't impressed. THAT'S why I said overhyped. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion

Damn..theres a lot of haters. I say if it's what you want and you can financially attain it. Then do what you want. Its your life, your money, and your car.

Re: Possibly buying an 89 Skyline GTS-t
I forgot how well you and Matt get along....too funny.
I would try and talk ole boy down on the price a little. $11k is a lot of money for an old car, regardless of what the badging is, and 212hp isn't all that much. Especially since you're talking about getting rid of your new car. Yes it's a good platform to start modding from given the amount of aftermarket support, but it is old. And given it's age - and potentially dubious history prior to import - make sure you put mechanicking hat on after you buy it, as you'll have your work cut out if/when something breaks on it.

modded cars are usually worth less than stock.. my .02 cents
plus you dont know how much someone has beat on that thing
i have a feeling you'll be running into some problems...lots

Re: Possibly buying an 89 Skyline GTS-t
yea...this is my fear!
but whatever Skyline i manage to get to look at once this Civic sells off, i have a pretty good list of things to look for such as the CEL that should come on when the ignition is started but then go out shortly aftewards, other areas of concern, etc...
next would be trying to get as much money out of this deal so i can purchase parts that i want such as the front mounted intercooler (89 GTS-t have side mounted), Intake, Fuel rail, CF hood, etc...
if i could get this Skyline down to 10k, and get somewhere close to 18k for the civic could go a long ways.....
ill keep you guys updated when i do buy my skyline!
Thanks!
Re: Possibly buying an 89 Skyline GTS-t
So you are asking 18K for a civic. What year is that Civic and what have you done to it. There is no way you are going to get 18K for a civic. Just dont see it happening!!
I just saw that you have a 06 but still that might be stretching it a little!

another peice of advice.. i would not jump in and dish money into this thing right away... since it is a modded out skyline.. you should seriosuly double think about things that could be more serious than a measly check engine light... i would pay off a good honest well known tuner or mechanic to get a good run down of how the car is running.. all the necessary tests, tune ups, id get the clutch and flywheel checked out.. the entire exhaust system, the throttle linkage, all the hoses and lines (since its an old car)... i would dump money into getting that thing checked out be4 i go out and by a damn carbon fiber hood.. that car could be a money pit

This thread is making me laugh.
Its your choice in whatever you do, dont listen to what everyone says. Its YOUR money to do what YOU want with it. Good luck in whatever you decide.

I kinda base all my car comparisons to RSX's and S2k's. Turbo either of em and they can easily hit 300 in both torque and hp. But n e ways thats besides the point now....
I can see how u have wanted a Skyline for a while now, they do look hot as all crap... and they respond very well to bolt-ons. But unless u are gonna twon turbo the thing... i say go with a Type S, a S2k, a STI, a Evo, or even a Golf GTI. That is unless u are going for the "prestige/rarity" level. Its like why would anyone buy a Porsche 911 turbo when they could buy a (i forgot what model) Ferrari... even tho the Porsche is 100,000 cheaper, and beats is on the track. It was on top gear.. (great show)
Ok back on topic... like my first question, how many miles does it have on it?
And also yes alot of the 300zx's parts will work on a skyline. and only a handfull of 240 parts.

Re: Possibly buying an 89 Skyline GTS-t
I would just save and drop a vq35 engine in there. Those engine have a lot of power and are relatively cheap for the power. You can source any engine parts from your nearest nissan or infinite dealer.
There comes a point when modding a old engine costs a lot more then just dropping a newer engine in.
Just like you modd the crap out of a old ae86 engine with port and polish and still get crappy returns on hp when you can just drop a s2000 engine instead for cheaper

Re: Possibly buying an 89 Skyline GTS-t
um not to be a blocker or anything, but i agree on the overatted part, i say that cause 212/195 isnt all that hot for a turbo'ed I6 car... i mean, RSX Type-S is at 200/142 not turbo'ed at all...same with the S2000 ..240/165 and both are I4's

still goin on about the ****in guage huh matt....lmao! goof!
anyhow....
Yea, i like the looks of this Skyline with some mild bolt ons i can hit 305HP without touchin anything internally. Theres an ECU that remapped and rechipped to put this number down on pavement alone. Slap on a steel internal turbo, APEXi power intake, etc.... and shes gone....
now for parts, i hope 300zx parts will work cuz the idea of JDM that takes up to 4 weeks to obtain kinda does spook me but im goin for it, right off the bat im buying 4k worth of **** for this car to make it move. Ill still have 4k left hopefully to have this stuff all installed. I will have it transported back to me when the work is done to it, then ill take images when she arrives. I do the wheelin and dealin today....so im hoping for this to go through!!
Re: Possibly buying an 89 Skyline GTS-t
I dunno, to me, the GTS-T is like the Civic DX of skylines. If youre going to do it, put some money out and get the GT-R.

And anyone who says swap out the RB series engine for a VQ series engine is high. Sure, the VQ35 may have a little more power stock, but once you put some power to them, they need to be built internally. The RB engine is known for being able to handle a ton of psi without even touching the internals. Not to mention swapping a VQ in place of an RB is just dumb anyways, and wouldnt even come close to being an easy swap.

I even get to slap on 8000.00 CDN ontop of this car in option parts so here is what im thinking, seeing as the car already has a GTR bodypackage, shaved door handles, Catback exhaust, 17" ROH wheels, Lowering coils....
- Greddy alloy oil cap
- Adj Cam gears IN/EX
- JUN RB20 cam kit Stage I
- Greddy Type RS BOV
- Greddy FMIC
- APEXi power intke
- RB20 downpipe
- TSS RB20 02 housing
- Strut tower bars F/R
- APEXi turbo timer
- JUN RB20 ECU
- Seibon vented CF hood
+ all the labour to it from the dealer.

Re: Possibly buying an 89 Skyline GTS-t
I call bullshit. and if not, your an idiot for wasting all that money. Why not keep the car you have and invest the 8k your sitting on? I would kill to have 8k just lying around as you discribe.
Re: Possibly buying an 89 Skyline GTS-t
First off....
I am getting this Skyline as long as its in decent shape, so need to insult me!
secondly, wtf would i spend 8k on a torquless ****ing honda for? lol
next...the 8k comes from the trade-in on my 06 civic for the 89 GTS-t!
ill definetly post images as soon as i get this car, but it will take time as they are installing the **** for me there, so afterwards it will be transported to me when the work is complete.
