The power of cheese? Or Glass?
since we've had the power of cheese we've also been lookin into new powers for that silicon based clear stuff we call glass. we've got the fastest sharpest most clear sond and picture with fiberoptics. glass that bends without breaking?
thought:
if we can fortify glass with something very resiliant to pressure could it regain a space age material status?
properties of glass:
very high melting point
reacts with ALMOST nothing
hard
can be milled to anyshape
fairly light weight
can be milled to a smother surace then 15 microns
aluminum engines are on the uprise. cars are adapting the longerlasting and light weight of aluminum enignes. what about glass engines? crazy compression? tons of boost? WONT RUST?
maybe i'm talkin crazy and people already tried it. maybe just could i get a piston and a rod of glass. just to say i have it?
but if not it would look cool anyway...

The only problem is glass is actually a very very very viscous liquid, that's why you see that old windows are thicker in the bottom. Heat would accelerate that process, so engines would be melting left and right.

Mazda at one point made a car completely our of Ceramic, Fiberglass and Carbon Fiber. The only metallic parts they used where wiring, and spark plugs.
The Mazda Warlock. a 3.8 million dollar concept car. Weight just under 1300lbs, had a 370 HP Turbocharged v-6. Cost 3.8 Million dollars to make 1.. they made 3 if I recall.
Cheers
