Almost everywhere you'll see the Si has been clocked about a second slower than the old one- you'd have to actually race one side by side or at the track to tell, because just driving it down a road you won't be able to.

the new Si/Type R's are made in the UK. The Si I drove had a sticker on the driver side back window with all this crap saying it was from the UK. I've thought about it Boo...most likely prob wont do it, considering Ive heard the Type R kit will not be availiable over here. But I guess we'll see.

Hey,
Just quick thought...
I personally would reserve spending $19,000 on a car that might not have a high trade-in or resale value in a few years. Looking at Honda's past with the hatchback, they haven't made a substantial marketing push to make the hatch take off to the American public. I don't know if that will change here, but I would want to see something from Honda that will at least to prove it.
And how do you prove that?
Bring the damn Type R over. Then you have me sold.
160hp is nice, but at that price range you still have ALOT of other options. Basically their selling it on the strength of the look, which hasn't been recieved that great (generally).
I don't know, I'm hoping the SI sells relatively well, thus bringing over the Type R but even then what would be the price range of the Type R and thats a big IF to even the SI selling well.

Glad to see a review on it, still need to see one in person, hasn't changed much in my mind. For the price tag yeah thats up there, my bud has the 99 SI and he is looking at the RSX -S for a second car and he has saw the new SI and not to hot on it. Hopefully the dealer here gets one in soon, doubt they will let the public drive it unless you are really serious, but oh well dealers are a pain around here wanting to keep the miles off of the cars.
We'll see if I can get one out

I can't begin to tell you how frustrating it is to have ordered one in October, and still be waiting!!! Damn Americans get the car first!!! BAH! Anyways...good review magnus. But I do have a question....
Did you notice the bottom end torque at all? Considering the VTEC is engaged throughout the power band?

Ive seen dealer markup as high as 23,500 on the Si. You can buy a Type S for that much.
Expect the Type R to probably be what, 25k or more after getting raped with markup.

The 2 dealerships that I went to had the Si marked at 23,500-25,000. I lauhged when I saw what wheels they had on it, they were some 16 inch chrome peices of crap. I told the sales person that I would buy the car for the MSRP and then add in the destination charge of 445.00 and we would have a deal and all he did was smile and say nope cant do it. Oh well.

$23,000! for this SI?
C'mon now, typical Honda. Why don't they just stop making the SI's now. They already have the disadvantage of this car being a Hatch, now instead of building upon that with great marketing and relatively low price they have the car go as much as a Suburau WRX.
Now why would anyone buy the Honda SI then a WRX? Because of the location of the shifter? What is Honda thinking?
While in a few months the SI will be 19,000, would honda have already shot themself in the foot?
I think they are relying too much of the SI name of their last models, I don't know if thats enough to make this car a great seller.

I agree. The MSRP of the 99-00 was 17,4k..not to say there wasnt markup on them but Im sure very few of them reached 20k for a Civic...the price that could be paid for one of them can put you into a whole diff class ie the Type S or WRX, but its not to say the car wasn't fun to drive cuz of the shifter...but I wouldnt pay over 20k for a car whose past was notorious for redlining at 8k!!!!
Well saw the White Civic SI today went over to see it first one here in Prescott, AZ. I wish I could say I was really empressed with it but I wasn't. After seeing it in person and seeing the inside its so small. Not my sort of car I would rather have that engine put in my coupe. The interior was all right but like mine better the shifter different, definately. Talked to the salesman who was pathetic I knew more about the SI then they did and they told me if I put 17 in wheels on it they wouldn't void my warranty but thats that dealer I have no clue what mine would say. Over all I still liked getting into my ride when I left the place,
now if it was the Acura RSX -S now that would be a different story. Well if you are into the SI buy it, you can take dibs on the white one I saw today.
Nick
OH yeah the price tag on it was like 19,500 I believe

cool review
i saw you were listening to 96.1 KISS FM.
was the increase in torque very noticeable?
i also feel bad for the person that buys that car. i'd beat that car too if i got an unsupervised test drive, though.
i'm goin' to the honda dealer tomorrow to see if they got any Si's in.
i may have to take one for a test drive... maybe even an unsupervised test drive.

<< but I wouldnt pay over 20k for a car whose past was notorious for redlining at 8k!!!!
>>Hey Neo. I got to look at your video. Nice drive! The car looks fun! I dunno if I like the sound of the engine, though. It has the base RSX engine, but I've only drove the Type S which sounded more aggressive when the tach needle shot closer to 8k.
The Honda dealership around here finally took the Si out the showroom when I went there today to check on the price for an OEM rear skirt for my car. I don't have a video camera, but if I decide to test drive it (it won't be as good as yours... you lucky foo! ) I'll tell you what I think. It'll be the first REAL hatch I've driven.
You're right about the 8k redline. I wouldn't give that up for the new Si which redlines at the same place as the regular Civic. (6800.) I hope the potential of Honda's new i-VTEC stands out as time goes by. This makes me wonder about Honda's new engines. The Type S RSX replaces the GS-R but has a bit more HP than the ITR, though the ITR would kill a Type S. What's up with that? Are these i-VTEC engines not as good as the older Honda VTECs in terms of power? Of course everything the ITR has under the hood is rare, ported/polished, and finished to perfection. Then when I think of the new Si's power, it just makes me wonder how it's able to stand against what truly made the "Si" so special... the 99-00 Si coupe? If the new Si is like the baseline RSX, but faster... what's so different about the RSX and the Civic Si?
An 8k redline with a DOHC on a Civic is dramatic. The Si coupe will never be forgotten among Honda enthusiasts.
I'll be getting THIS 8,400RPM redline some time and I know I'll be very satisfied.

HAha my dealership was smoking my nuts when he told me i would be looking at $5000 over invoice.... that makes the car about 24,000 before taxes??? pretty stupic cuz my brother bought a RSX Type-s for 24,000 out the door. More hp and more quality for the price.
Hummmm Type-S or Civic Si????

Civic Si - $19,000
RSX Type S - $23,000
I'd get the RSX. It looks better... you get 6 gears, a faster car. I dunno, isn't this like asking
"Would you rather get an RSX or an RSX Type S?" Cuz the Si has the base RSX engine in it.
