What can I do about crazy insurance prices?

Right now in my family there are 2 cars and 3 drivers, my mom, dad and me, so insurance for myself is pretty cheap since we have only 2 cars and 3 drivers, currently i drive my parents 2k1 civic sedan, i've done some stuff to it which they have no idea just because they are parents and not into cars, anyways I WANT MY OWN CAR DAMN IT, but insurance is nuts when it comes down to being "the only driver"

if i want my own car it'll come down to 3 drivers, 3 cars, and insurance assumes that each driver takes a car, I'm 20 turning 21 and I heard crazy insurance of $7000 CDN a year ($4500 USD) , I can handle car payments but i can't handle the insurance, anyone know some sweet ways to get around this crazy insurance rate? Don't say something like "dont get insurance then"
Thanks!

Well, for starters and most important for the lowest rate, you need a perfectly clean driving record free of all kinds of summonses and accidents. Drivers can be viewed as a risk if they have convictions and accidents on their records. Usually passive alarms will knock off between 5% and 10% (in NY, not sure about other states), and if necessary, defensive driving courses will knock off an additional 10% off the premium. If all of the insured's under the policy have driving records free of accidents and traffic convictions, the price should not be that extrodinarily high. You should also shop your insurance...call different carriers and have them run numbers for you. Do not pick the most basic coverage either, it is almost like having no insurance should anything serious happen. $4500 a year for three cars and three drivers would amount to $2250 per every 6 months (which is how the majority of insured's pay, including myself)...I think you should be able to get that somewhat lower, assuming everything I states above is true...

LoJack while expensive, knocks off 18% on my insurance. As long as you and your parents all have clean driving records it shouldnt be that much, I'm 19 and drive my own 2k1 coupe and its only like 1k with AAA but then we have 4 cars and 4 drivers (something like 4.5k total)

unless you are getting your own policy (then your sorta screwed )

At your age and with a clean record, your insurance shouldn't be too bad. It also depends on the area you live in. If I moved 3 miles down the road, I would be in another county and my insurance would 15% cheaper.

That's what I hear, and that makes me raise a very interesting question... does that same rule affect our favorite 2-door hatchback?

I think the "Si" badge is a good indication of what the insurance will be like.
