meh, I only added $1200 moon roof, $540 clifford alarm system, $160 tint job & $1200 Alpine stereo system w/ Kicker sub to my new bone-stock cx hatch in 97. Since then got $400 Borbet aluminum wheels for summer. Coupla sets of studded snow tires & another set of summer tires puts me over the 3000 I put in the poll so I lied. Does the $110 to get the heater core welded count?

BUT the car I was replacing it with was a DX hatch that i got new from the dealer WITH the same moon roof for $1900 added to sticker, a shitty alarm system w/no instructions for $600 and the nasty-*** OEM stereo system for I can't remember how much (too much) with wires hanging or stuffed everywhere. That car got squished on the freeway & I was free from shitty dealer installs forever!

Re: How much have you spent on your civic?

Well I actually made money on mine. Paid 600 for the car. Then some guy turned infront of me after i got the body together. I ate the ditch instead of hitting him. Well his insurance gave me 1600 for the wreck then it cost me about a grand for carbon hood, new front and rear bumber, new rad. support, new grill and full paint job. So i pocketed 600.

Re: How much have you spent on your civic?

The funny thing is, most of the money i've spent on my civic is to keep it alive. I bought it used and the transmission was shot and the clutch was almost completely burnt out, soooo haha

I've spent about 15,000 dollars so far on top of the price of the car which I purchased for 29,000 dollars. Interior, audio, wheels, brakes, suspension, the list goes on.

I've put in about $1500 worth of maintenance, major tune-up DIY, tires, & so on. Got the car last year for $0 (zero) dollars. It was a gift. Car had 142K miles when I got it...now has 164K.

Well bought my 95DX with B16a2 swap about a month ago for $2,100. Since then I've probably thrown $500 to $600 into it fixing little things.

Re: How much have you spent on your civic?

What made you choose the s2000 steering wheels over a Nardi, Max?

Modifying cars is quite possibly the most expensive hobby imaginable, but I'm okay with knowing my car is a money pit, because the amount of spent on modifications is still less than many people lose in depreciation. If you were to buy an M3 today, over the next five years between depreciation and maintenance you will lose $40-50k. I would rather drive a less expensive car, enjoy buying and installing parts, keep it for ten years, and lose money that way as opposed to depreciation.

Re: How much have you spent on your civic?

I am actually on my 3rd build of my civic so I am possibly closer to $30K overall the builds and I don't even drive it daily anymore.
I had bought the car at a dealer auction in FL in 2002 (had been a demo) for about $3 dollars. (Go to a dealer auction on a rainy day and you can get great deals). My buddies and I took the stock motor out and dropped a C30A7 with 6-speed tranny into it and had to modify the body to fit it in real well. Needless to say about 4 months afterward when I was moving back to the Memphis, TN area, got cut off on the interstate in ATL and wrecked it. The price of the motor had kept the car from being totalled out, but now still have problems with front end fitment because the strut towers are wrinkled. The shop in ATL dropped a stock motor back in with another crappy automatic (ugh).
Got the car back to Memphis and then in 03 got t-boned by a tree trunk during a wind storm, so one of my friends thought to do something really weird to my civic for a car show. We grafted a halloween mask to the side with a gallon of fiberglass and 4 1/2 gallons of bondo. (Was made to look like it was pressing out the side of the car.)
I took that off in 2006, what a job that was, too. (Chainsaw to cut it off).
I then ported and polished the head on my D16Y8 and installed a Corbeau race seat with 5-point harness and did some custom dye work on the inside, custom tint and vinyl to the outside.
Now my car has a manual tranny swap in it on a D16Y8 motor.
Full FBSS air ride with 1/2 inch valves and 10-switches
RSX front end conversion
Custom built y-pipe for dual exhaust
Sitting on 14 stockies, but about to have a full ITR brake conversion from drum to disc and will be sitting on Honda Integra Type R 15s until I pick up my 17s at a friend's shop. Those wheels and tires are 4X114 Momo Speedline wheels and tires for $360 plus tax.
Fully shaved taillights with paintable tri-color led taillights like they put in minitrucks.
Door handles, side moldings and antennae fully shaved.
Reclinable race seats with seat belt harness bar and 4-point seat belts.

Next on my list is possibly a B16B swap, but also going with a fully cantilever bagged suspension where the fenderwells will be completely cutout and a tube frame front end to get rid of the wrinkled strut towers. We will be fitting my custom made 22X7.5 wheels in the front and my custom made 24X8 wheels in the back. I also have a custom built clear polycarbonate 9-gallon air tank for my air ride setup going in. The big wheels will only be on my civic at shows and when driving the car daily will have the 17s on it.
I will be removing the back seat from the car and installing a custom fiberglass speaker box to fit 6 12 inch subs into and 2 7" tvs in the back seat facing forward. We will also be fiberglassing the dashboard with Dakota Digital gauges in there.
Finally the paint job is almost all figured out and since I do welding, will be building a custom car hauler trailer just for taking the civic to shows.

I thought about it, but I loves my cruise control. That and I didn't want to look at an SRS light. I devised ways of relocating my cruise switch to the dash and some type of resistive load to override the SRS switch. I got Honda steering wheel off some guy that had it on his new S2000 for a month or so (he swapped in a Momo). It was mint, so I could't pass it up. Dual stage airbags was the added bonus.

I feel the same way about expensive cars. I got out of the VW scene because I would drop loads of money into resto-modding them. I thought Hondas were a safe way to go. Little did I know, haha.
