question about a possible project..
question about a possible project..
I've been thinking about getting a 98 or so hatch and dropping k20a into it.
I would also like to put the interior to an 05 si into it and was wondering if this was even possible. Right now I'm just kind of playing around with the idea a little, not too sure yet.
Any info is greatly appreciated.

i don't think that the interior of a o5 si would even fit. the dimensions are larger and longer interior. but i think you can put in the dash though... but that would b a tight fit. i've seen some pic of a SI dash in a EG somewhere, but it is ugly,

It's mainly the dash that I mean.. I figured it might be too wide to fit into it which made me think about the possibility of cutting and fiberglassing it to fit. I made a bet with a friend of mine that I could have an HIN-ready showcar by the show next year and not let my grades slip.
I just really don't like the look of the older civics interiors.. if I thought it was possible I would probably try to fit an 06 'vic interior in it.. By making that statement I understand I will get flamed, but I want something different. As for body all I've thought is a lip kit and a drop. I'm not a huge fan of rediculous body kits and wings on hatchbacks (wtf, really?).
He's also a cocky mother****er in an (that hates hondas) esx/sti and I would like to outrun him on a 1/4 which is why I'm think boosted k20a in a hatch.
Any other swaps recommended by anyone else? ITR b18c maybe?
For the record this will be my first project car so any and all comments on my ideas are welcome..

i duno, i think u're gona get lots of flaming, but if you got the skills, do it. silence those ppl if it turns out great.
anyway, if you wana run 1/4 time, why not get a 92 hatch? i've seen a few that ran high 11s and low 12s with only a k swap and i/h/e and cam.
and don't you think the gearwould be hard to setup?(just a thought)

I've thought about this too.. That really sucks cuz I actually like the rally shifter being there. The only answer that I've come up with for this is to take the shifter out and just leave the little "oval" piece open w/ a screen behind it. I was thinking about cutting it and putting it on hinges so that the whole screen could be viewed when needed and left alone when it's not.
AGAIN, these are just my original ideas and I know they're a little out there, but I want something a little bit different. I'm kind of taking this personal because a whole lot of people around here hate honda's with a passions and just make fun of them. I don't want my project to be ignored... I want a good 1/4 and showcar quality.

its hard to get both, cause show adds weight, and thats not good for the track. unless you make it so you can take everything out when you go to the track, but then its not really a show car/track car cause your completly changing it lol.
As far as show I'm thinking to rely mainly on a great paint job as well as simple interior. I'm also contemplating a way to have a great looking system (subs, amp) in the back that can be easily removed. That is something that I haven't really come up with an answer for considering I would like it to be fiberglassed also.
If there is any way to avoid fiberglassing the interior I would like to.. that's why I would like to know how hard it would be to get the 05si dash into the 98 hatch. I have no idea what the dimensions are though and haven't had much luck finding it.
If it seems to be too much trouble, I might just start toying with the idea of customizing the stock interior to look different. I'm hoping to start going to auctions early next month to see what I can come up with.. otherwise, I'll just be buying a shell somewhere near me.
Another question is does anybody know the stock weight of a 98ish hatch vs. the weight of a 99-00 si?? If there's not much of a difference there I might just go k20 in an 00 si.
Does anybody know of a project forum that I can check out that might help me with these questions? I'm still relatively new to forums and haven't made my way around to know these things.
Thanks again for everyones input btw.

nice idea. i just dont think the show and race thing will work out together. just like the one dude said, for show you add wieght. and even if you do take some stuff out theres not alot you will be able to take out. if you want to get in nopi or whatever your car has to be clean like an undriven car. you go out and race and get little scratches and dings in the rims or something, thats something serious for a car thats gonna be show. ive seen a video of a k20 head and k24 block turboed 93 civic that was fast as hell. i think he had 644 hp or something with boost all the way up. i cant remember to well its been a while but the 98 hatches look alot better. dont let anyone stop you though. be unique, be a leader not a follower and do what other people do. good luck and post up on the pics if you could
Hey, thanks for the support man! As far as showcar-worthy, I think that nopi is out of my range anyways.. I'm thinking more along the lines of HIN and local shows (unique performance, little shows here and there, etc.).
To be completely honest I'm more into beating the honda haters around here whenever I get the chance. I live in a town with quite a few 17 year old evo owners and a lot of srt4's that think they are untouchable by hondas. There's only one other person here (that I've come across) that is actually doing decent work to their honda. He has a 92 or so hatch with a b18 swap and simple bolt ons right now. Next step is boosting for him and he'll be doing okay.
I'm going to start looking into different swap possibilities to make decent power. The k20 is just a thing of beauty to me and that's why I wanted it, but if something else seems to be a better way to go I have no problem doing it. To be honest, I would like a k20z3 from the new si, but aftermarket support for it has been painfully slow so far and rediculously expensive. The turbo kit (alljap) that I would want is somewhere close to $4500 by itself. Granted, it's a great kit.. but it seems that a k20a would be a lot cheaper.
