Rev matching downshifts, bad for engine?

I heard from a friend that rev matching downshifts is bad for the engine. That you should just downshift normally. I would like to but I dont think my legs were designed to downshift nomrally, I prefer to rev match. But then again I dont want to abuse my engine either.

??? I think that you got it reversed. Rev-matching is when you brake and blip the gas at the same time then shift. And the normally down shifting I would assume your taking about just shifting and releasing the clutch slowly. Rev-matching is the proper way of doing it and will put less wear or no wear on the clutch when done properly.

actually thats pretty much heel toe-ing to downshift...when just trying to slow down without using the brakes rev up than shift into gear and it wont hurt anything...if done properly that is...if you ride the clutch and let the clutch rev up than there goes the clutch...but if you rev match there is hardly any wear that happens other than normal use

I always heel/toe and it's never done me any harm (or my cars)

huh? you guys are confusing me.... whats being discussed and is best? i believe there are 3 different terms being explained at the same time heel/toe, rev matching and just normal downshifting.

Yeah, rev-matching's easier on the clutch.

I've never heard of it called rev-matching but it seems fairly obvious as to what it means (i think, lol). Surely rev matching is trying to equal the engine speed to the hub speed on the downshift whilst braking at the same time, which i would say is exactly what heel and toeing is

rev-matching and downshifting is the same damn thing if you are downshifting without rev matching thats just retarded, everytime you downshift you should be adding some gas, and heel-toe is just downshifting while brakeing and rev-matching with your heel

to me there's only one way to down shift..... but i know some ppl just put their car in neutral and brake... even if they're in 5th.

I can't heel toe, I just brake then when I want to accelerate just blip the gas and put it in gear. I go into Neutral when I'm coming up to a red light if its high speed (many roads around my apartment are 50mph) so I just coast to the lights instead of having the engine rev for nothing (I know it helps slow it down a lil tho)

putting into neutral is alrite, it kinda puts pressure on your brakes, but then again clutching puts pressure on your clutch... no win situation.

here's a video... lol...

What is the big deal with engine breaking. I down shift all the time w/o "heal toeing" or w/e and my motor is fine. Obviously going from 5th to 2nd is a nono but seriously as long as your within the given range of the gear you're in nothing should happen to the car downshifting.

if your coming up to a red light, you know it wont turn green, just shift into nuetral and cruise to a stop! other than that rev matching is the best
