So I'm on my way to school this moring, on my bike 7:15AM. Gotta get to class by 7:30 and traffic is backed the hell up on the 101E. I'm putt putting along in traffic and I decide **** the traffic and merge to the exit lane on 7th Ave.
Traffic is pretty much stopped in all 3 lanes. My exit is about 200 yards in front. Me, feeling stupid, decide to use the outside part of the right lane and part of the break down lane (ok most of the break down lane) to cut around all the traffic and exit on 7th Ave. As I'm doing this, I notice a couple cops pulled some other guy over on the left side of the the 101E. I think oh **** and decide to get back in the lane and exit the freeway. I don't see anyone follow me so I think I'm good.
So I'm sitting at a red light telling myself that was stupid and just take it easy the rest of the way, even if I'm freaking late to class. Then as I look in my mirror, **** bike cop zooms up behind me, cuts me off. No lights, no sirens, nothing. He tells me to give him my keys and push the bike onto the sidewalk. At this point I know I'm in deep **** cuz he looks pissed.
He goes into the whole thing about endangering myself and others, going 50mph while traffic is stopped, etc etc. He takes my license and runs it and all that. I didn't have my registration on me and I still don't have insurance (yea flame me if you want).
He comes back with a ticket for passing on the right, no insurance, and no registration. He says it easily could have been a criminal offense and could have towed my bike and put me in jail. I guess when I think about it I did get off kind of easy.
I don't know what I'm gonna do yet, but I know I'll take it way easy from now on and definitely won't ride (as much) untill I get insurance.
Cliffnotes:
Got pulled over on the way to school for using break down lane to go around traffic. Ticket for passing on right, no insurance, no registration. Fines around $220. Me = pissed at myself for being stupid.
