should i trade my 05 EX coupe for a 04 Si ?

i was at madison honda (NJ) today and a salesman caught me checking out a used 2004 Honda Civic Si in Taffeta White. He asked me what I drive and if I am interested in the Si. I told him I drive a 2005 Honda Civic Ex Coupe and I told him yes I am. So he checked out the car and said well this Si goes for 14,999 and has appx 47,993 miles on it. It has been serviced and the warranty that was previously on it was an extended warranty for 100,000 miles. Then we went inside and he checked up my car on KBB and Edmunds and it hit the 14-15k range for price.. I cut him off saying "look i am just interested to see if I could trade in the civic and walk off the lot with the Si, I am not willing to put down any money for the Si and I would rather have all the documentation, tax etc included.. My friend was also there and he said that they should lower the price down to 13,500 bucks and then have the tax and documents pushed in for the remaining amount. The salesman told us to wait to ask his manager, they both came back and they put their hands together and said, would you like to start now or come back at another time? If you come back at another time the car may be gone.. i ended up saying Hold it I must talk to thou parents because they have the title on the car.. but could I get this in writing. And I did.. now for you fellow members...

Should I Do This?

I mean I would have alot to sell or trade for stock parts:

anyways yes or no? i see people on here trading for RSX-Type S's and the new Si and junk like that..

I would say go for it if youre able to pay almost nothing for the trade. There just seems to be a lot more out there (in terms of aftermarket) for the Si. Honestly, if I were in your shoes, I would do it without much doubt........... but I am a fan of hatchbacks though....

yeah go for it
04civic si>05civic ex in so many ways...
of course though I would opt forthe rsx-s if I could but this is still a great oppurtunity however, you are losing money if you bought ur ex brand new..

thats what got me at first, but I had a friend that bought a brand new si and let me drive it and the shifter is actually well put, I like it better than where normal shifters are... you think its wierd because you never saw something like that but when you actually drive in it, I like it better, mainly because its away from the ebrake but you gotta feel it for yourself to understand, ever heard the saying the true beauty lies on the inside?

BTW you also get the new style of the si..... I think its 04 and up where honda changed the look of the headlight/taillights...

Yeah, what he said. It is actually a lot more comfortable than our cars. Btw, I work on a lot and can test drive any car I want to at any time, lol.

I have an 03 Si that I bought after my 02 EX was totalled and they're two completely different cars. The Si seems to be built better, is much much tighter, rides much better and the seats are wonderful, and you'll get used to the shifter placement easily.

As far as the trade goes, I've never seen any dealer trade for something straight up, I'm sure there will be some sort of cash involved. I'd say you're in for at least $1000 if not more.

ok so today a guy from Madison Honda called me up, his name was Mike Fridel. The Sales Manager at Madison Honda, he asked me to bring the car in for a more appropriate evaluation to see how good of a condition the honda was in. So i told him i am off of work at 7PM and should arrive there by 7:30PM. I ended up going there and two guys came out with a Mechanic and they pulled my car around to the bay.. the mechanic took about 30 minutes to check the car as Mike and this other sales dude let me test drive the Civic SI without them in it. I know what you guys mean by in a different category.... but he said that they could not give me the 100K warranty on the car, it would be a limited 2 year/20,000 mile warranty. So the mechanic came back up and asked if I had all the stock parts. Air Box, Cat, Muffler etc, i told him yea I do and he said well ok, the aftermarket parts actually degrade the value of the car beacuse someone doesnt want a modded car when they buy it, my evaluation puts this car at a little bit under 13,475 (est) and the 20,000 miles on the car (hit 20k today) isnt really an attraction to people since the new coupes are at the dealer. The sales manager and the other dude just stood there, probably because it was just ME, friend couldnt go. So I pulled out the piece of paper i was given by the prev sales man that had told me about the deal and they said that he did this without the manager's authorization and that he was not in at the moment. but for my inconveniences they would lower the SI price down from 14,999 to 14,300 not including taxes, documentation Motor Vehicle (license plate, temp registration, etc). They totalled it up to just a hair over 15,000 bucks and they offered me 10,000 trade-in AS IS with the aftermarket parts on it, etc; i told them i would get the stock parts put back on and the non managerial sales man told me that this is a one time offer, if i left, then the offer would no longer be on the table.. I tried to get them down atleast 3 Grand so i would only have to owe 2 grand and i would just get a loan for that.

and i dont have 5 grand to drop, esp with 47,993 miles on the honda civic Si.. my friends ended up saying with that 5 gs just turbo the D17 from someone on the forums' kit and call it a day.

I guess the only fast car ill be owning is my '94 GSR

Oh yea and I couldve gotten it too. i had the title from my mom in the car...

I knew it, dealers are scumbags, and the "one time deal" is bullshit, if you went back there next week they would give you the same deal. I love the way they were going to give you a "deal" by knocking $700 off the price of the Si for your time that car with that many mile should go for $12,500 at the most. I paid $16,300 for my 03 Si brand new!! Car salesmen will say ANYTHING to get you in the door, then back track like crazy and lie right to your face. They saw you and thought you would be an easy sell because they thought you were in love with the Si. I'm glad you didn't do it because they would try to screw you anyway they could.

I second that , happened to me and my friend when he was wanting to trade in his car for a civic. The guy was like only today, so we came back like 9 days later and he came up with the same offer, but even lowered it a few hundred because we walked out the first time (i think thats y he lowered it)

sevenplaces is on a distinguished road
"the deal" was never real in the first place. Even if you had your pinkslip in hand that first time there is 100% NO WAY they would have made that trade. Salesmen will tell you ANYTHING to make you commit to buy right now. They will lie, tell you one thing and then switch it right at the end. This is how they work. I am usualyl a nice guy, but when it comes to car dealers I have found that treating them like the scum of the earth works the best. You have to be agressive and not give in, no matter how much you want the car.
