official LEXUS IS500 spy shots
More detailed pics here... Autoblog

ok.. there are several people on clublexus.com clocking in 1/4 mile times of approximately 13.4. I wonder what this will have to offer.

Taking on BMW’s up-coming M3 and Mercedes’ future C 63 AMG, the new IS 500 is certainly appreciated by sport-saloon fanatics. We haven't seen or heard much about it lately, but it appears as though the V8-powered Lexus IS 500 is still an ongoing project. This prototype spotted on the Nürburgring is clearly no ordinary IS 350 given its deep front air dam, extra large boot lid spoiler and two pairs of exhaust pipes. On top of that, we just heard a rumour that the new LS 460 will be the first Lexus with an electronic stability control system which can be deactivated. We can only hope this high-powered IS will be the next nanny-less Lexus headed our way.

those pipes probably wont make it to production, as no one is going to like them. they are too much for a sports saloon.
Yeah i said saloon, so what? You wanna fight about it?

I want 400 horsies out of that engine. At least :-D Anything less and I'd rather turbo my civic.
(yeah right)
Seriously though, it looks as if the lower pipes are there just for decoration, because look : in the last picture you can see the asphalt through the left lower tailpipe.
So horraaay, America is saved!

Any word on the transmission? The IS350 unfortunately does not come in manual so would the IS500 be a manual. The article said something about a double clutch? I've never heard of this before.

yesss.. i heard something about double clutch as an option...
BUT
There's no need for a pure manual transmission though with these kinda cars. Take Mercedes C55 for example. If you look at Mercedes AMG line-up, none of the newer AMG's come in manual. There's a reason for it... Mercedes claims that there auto transmission is much superior than the manual for those motors.
The same case applies to lexus. Lexus claims that their SMG shifter's can shift through gears faster than Ferrari's. For this reason, i doubt they'll come out with a pure manual transmission since their SMG transmission is already so advanced.

Here, the IS-F in it's full glory:
Autoblog
Now that I think about it, what I feel is more important that shift speed (when both are in the sub 150ms range) is SWOL. The car would show better acceleration if you don't have to lift.

yeah, its going to be fast.
the only thing is i hope its not too weighted down, and is more of an audi RS4 type car than an audi S4. (The RS is more taught, sporty, aggressive, and less luxurious. The S is generally a more aggressive, but still luxurious A with a much more powerful engine)
