IF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS NOT INSERTED PROPERLY, THE PEDAL CAN COME LOOSE FROM THE PEDAL STOPPER CAUSING THE THROTTLE TO BECOME STUCK INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Unfortunately, you can't expect that every driver of one of the best-selling cars in history to 1) will know that under normal circumstances or 2) will be able to exercise that knowledge under stress.

the car just came out, they have bugs to work out. if it was a 3 year old model and the **** was happening, then its a big issue... hence my mercury cougar beater, third year of production and it still has recalls.

the gas pedal is scary. when it happens, you wouldnt be prepared and what if it does that just before a red light. you cant react fast enough, and its worse cause of the stupid drive by wire thing.
I thought the latest recall was due related to the starter on some late model minivans and cr-v's.
gearbox can you elaborate on this tranny issue with 7thgen civics? Is it an overall design flaw or did certain plants just use crappy materials to put it together? Can the factory your car was made impact your vehicle's quality?
I have heard the TQM in the states is equal or better to the plants in Japan, but I would still prefer a true import.

i have had my cruise control stick on my car for some reason it just kept accelerating on the fwy like the accel button on the cruise was stuck. i just pushed in the clutch, turned off the cruise, put it in neutral and within a few seconds it stopped. needles to say i am hesitant to use it again. but i have and it worked fine
So if you are driving a car and it begins to accelerate on its own, wouldn't you hit the brakes? I mean it's a Civic not a mad power monster! Then if you aren't smart enough to realize that you should get it out of gear, it kinda sounds like Darwinism.

.recalls happen with every car. IF not, they discontinue the car. like the ford Bronco. a rare good car from them.
the 64 stang. almost put ford out of business cause no one needed anything fixed...there are other examples from other car companies
Yeah, recalls happen to every car, so it really is a degree of severity. A recall on rubber bushings for your drivers side seat isn't a safety concern; whereas the acceleration pedal loosening and being stuck in a depressed position is (although apparently some people don't see it that way)

ive also realized that most ppl dont even know that their autos are busted. Most ppl dont bother when their tranny kicks or if the engine revs up cuz of a gear slip.
To clarify to everyone whose still wondering, its the 2nd gear clutch in the 01-03 autos. its been documented. various car research websites show this defect in the reliablity section such as msn autos. if honda was to recall the 01-03 auto trannies in the civic, Honda wouldve recalled almost all their trannies in the 1998-2002 era. Accords, TLs, Oddessys, Preludes etc, you name it honda had some pretty bad years with their Autos.
