what % of people mod their car?

it doesnt seem like it would be much. driving around every day i maybe see a few modded cars compared to thousands of stock cars. Why dont people generally care about their car? its the most expensive thing they own (aside from house) yet they really dont care at all about it. I mean i can understand wanting to just keep a car stock, but some people wont even take off the dealer plate or sticker. Also this carries over to people who dont even care about keeping a car looking good as far as detailing goes. By asking around, I've been able to figure out that mostly its due to laziness. Even people who are neat and like to keep things clean (at home) will have a filthy car and when asked why, they tell me oh its just a car. hmm.what does that mean? it doesn't count as something you own? do you think its laziness or just a combination with not knowing or not caring? it just seems strange to me. I've seen $30k+ cars that looked horrible never been waxed, paint actually fading away, plastic pieces all sun damaged. My first car for 3 yrs was a beat up 87 jetta with paint flaking off, nothing done to it at all, yet i would always be shining it up and making it look neat inside.

I think most people see their vehicles as a sunk cost; meaning that it's just meant to get them from point A to point B, for this reason they don't care how it performs so long as it gets the job done. These consumers see putting extra money in their car as a waste of time and money because it still gets the job done. Other consumers buy a vehicle for their image such as SUV's or over priced sports cars but they will never truly appreciate it. Tuners INVEST in their vehicles because it's more than just a transport; it's an thrill every day to drive a vehicle that performs and looks to how YOU individually want it to look and perform, for that reason putting extra money in makes the vehicle that much better.

yea i barely ever see modded cars around here also, but i see mercedes and lexus that look disgusting, brake dust all over the rims to the point where it looks like the have black ones, bird **** that looks like it has been on for years. My old car was a 91 ford probe with like no tranny, a hole in the exhaust, paint peeling, dents, no AC and a lot more problems but i washed and waxed that car at least once every two weeks...i just dont get some people its really not that hard to upkeep a car

Pride in your ride

I live in Winnipeg Canada and man people don't care about there cars here. If they buy a new car, the only time it looks good is when it was new, due to all the salt they use in this city. Gearbox when summer come though, man do people have some nice rides here they hide them all winter and every Sunday we have cruise night in the city. It's like a big *** party. I have a 1994 Chrysler Concorde which was my first car. Which I babied till this day it has 250 K on it but man it doesn't look its age at all. So I agree man u should take PRIDE IN YOUR RIDE!!!!!!! Cuz your right man the two most biggest purchases of your life is your car and house.

i've pondered this a lot in the past and agree. some people think its a waste of time/money to care for your car.

i heard somewhere that the average driver spends 3 months of his/her life just sitting at red traffic lights. if you think about it, a car is easily your second home.

and if i'm going to be spending a good bit of my lifetime in my car, i sure as hell would want to enjoy it

what i dont get is you say that people dont think of it as an investment just point a to point b, well why get a bmw/mercedes/jaguar and then dont even take the 5 minutes to drive it through a car wash? that just doesnt make sense to me. i agree tuners take pride in their car and normal people could care less, but to just get around they should've just bought a geo metro. i have seen an rx-8 around here i seriously thought the front two rims were a different model because they were literally covered in brake dust. Was he doing an experiment to see how dirty it could get, or maybe he doesnt know that after a week brake dust is gonna start eating away the rim.

I just dont think they care enough. They bought the brand new sports car as a status symbol to boost their image, and they thought they were done...nope! every car lover will know they are posers and wrecked their sweet @$$ car by not taking care of it.

I think that most people that have a mercedes or BMW or lexus or infinity lease most of those cars, unless your a Doctor Dentist or have a high paying job. When u start taking things for granted u forget what it was like not to have a nice things. The sad truth is that when u were poor and now your rich u forget where u came from.

this is the reason why dealers are getting more money.. this are the people who dnt know what dealers do. like what u said.. point a to point b,, herll i saw a 03 civic ex used with 80k miles selling 15 k.. cmon.. for sure some one will buy that ****.. most of the people who have filthy dirty cars are gurls.. coz some guys.. even if they are lazy.. goes to a gas station. and gets carwash.. and sometimes gets the top one( underbody and wax).. people like US treat our cars almost like our gf/wife.. sometimes even more.. we are the reason why meguiars is still in business!! lol.. yea.. my friend mods his car.. but hell he dosnt clean it.. i even cleaned it and waxed it for him.. coz i really felt bad for the car.. so to summarize this statement

a lazy person who doesnt care!

ok, its like this, it depends on the car. if you drive a civic and are a guy then 90 percent imo you will mod the car.
anyway, you have to have a passion for car modding. its been said over and over again. you really have to love it. people call it a hobby, i call it my wife/baby.
women believe that their house is like there face and shows who you are. guys are the same way but with cars. i take care of my car like i do my damn self. REAL GOOD.

100% of people mod their car, from the first time the key misses the hole and scratches the plastic.

I ask my gf all the time if she wants me to do anything to her car, but she always says "I like it just the way it is" which is fine, but now that she cleans it all the time she always insists on driving her car when we're together. I guess some ppl like only the OEM, but please keep it in good condition!

I think probably 1 in 3 cars out here in CA have been modded (if you include just minor exterior stuff like altezza tailights or just rims)

If you go to Europe or Japan, the cars there are much nicer/well maintained. Its because having a car in those places is a luxury, so people take good care of their own car. Here in America, car is a necessity. Most people are forced to drive a car, and they don't want to do any more things that has to do with cars.

Everyone asks me that.

Anyone here ever kick a person out, despite them being amazingly hot, for trying to smoke in your car. I seriously don't talk to this really hot chick cause I won't let her smoke in my car, and her car is broken. I really want to hook up with her, but no one is ruining my car! What a shame.
