Keep it in park/neutral!
I was on my way to class and I was walking towards the car. I see another guy on my left walk up to his car. Its a Jaguar, an older sedan. He takes two cranks and the engine starts. I open my door and get into my humble little Civic. I start my car in one try. I fiddle with the radio and let the car warm up a bit. I hear a third engine start. The next thing I know I see another black Civic reversing its way onto a little hill. I think to myself, what a noobie driver, he's going to ruin that coupe. It doesn't stop. It goes over the hill and keeps on reversing. *Crack* The Jaguar is UNDERNEATH the Civic's rear bumper! DAYUM! The guy in the Jag hopped out. I jump out of my car and look around. Theres no one in the Civic! 2 guys installing carpets see everything too. No Civic driver found. The guy in the Jaguar is on his cel calling someone. The Civic driver comes down and sees his car's rear end in the windshield of the Jag. I took a picture with my camera phone, but I don't know how to upload that.
I didn't see what happened afterwards but I saw the guy's girl come out and she saw the Jag under another car and started flipping out. I left for class after that.
If you're smart enough to install a remote starter, please don't be dumb enough to leave it in reverse. I hope he learned his lesson.
I hope that guy doesn't visit this forum.

Hahahaha what an idiot! My friend had a shop installed it in his car. They forgot to leave it in nuetral and tested it in first gear. The car ran through a store and they had to pay for the damages. LOL.

LOL I have only found 1 place where an auto is better. NO other time would I prefer a manual ( I hate remote starters so this is not a problem):
Traffic Jams.
Traffic Jams.
They do have a safety... THe person obviously didn't install it correctly or got a ghetto remote start. Mine only works if the brake pedal isn't pressed after the key is taken out (that way it forces you to use the ebrake and leave the car in neutral)

That's classic. I've got remote start and I leave it in neutral 24/7 365 with the parking brake. There was this one time I left my car at a shop to get the brake rotors resurfaced, when I picked up my car I tried using the remote start. The guy that parked it put it in first and used the parking brake, so my car danced out of the parking spot until I turned it off with the remote! I had a good laugh.

this car was in reverse. it did not have the parking brake up, nor did it have a driver to physically stop it. the only thing that did stop it, was the Jaguar's windshield.

Had to have been a cheap remote starter.
I have a compustar and I sold/installed them. There's a safety feature that WILL NOT allow you to remote start your car unless you shut off the car in a certain sequence originally.
1. Put car in neutral with foot on the brake
2. Pull ebrake up
3. Then let your foot off the brake... you'll hear a relay click if you did this properly
4. Turn the ignition off and take the key out... they car should stay running
5. Get out of the car and when you shut your door... the car should turn off (unless you setup the turbo timer)
^^ if you didn't do any of that the alarm won't allow you to remote start.

uuuh i got a remote start, and there has been plenty of times where i left the car in gear and started it. never once did the car run away on me. it just bucks maybe 2mm and stalls. like it should. how could the car remain running with out gas going to the engine? no way this could happen.
oh and i got a viper alarm not sure ont he model, but its the one with the 2 way receiver and remotestart.

all remore start systems have safetys on them. and you must install the safety for it to work proberly. but you can jump the safety. just like you can jump the e-brake safety for indash TV's. I know that when I was an installer my shop wouldn't put a remote start on a manual.

if it was in reverse and going uphill it would need gas pedal applied wouldn't it?
i don't understand, cuz if it stalled like its sposed to once the clutch is let off and no gas pedal movement then how wouldn't it stall and lock up?

how? my car if i forget to put it in neutral barely moves, it goes like 2mm at most. do you not put your ebrake up? your ebrake should be stopping your car from rolling away on you.
