GT3 has always been rear drive only as far as I know.... GT2 is/was AWD. The new on does look good! It definately distinguishes itself from the basic 997 more so than the 996 GT3 and basic 911.
The new gt3 is still rwd and the new 911 turbo is still awd and freakin SICK!
Check it out:

Click on the bottom, they only have a press release type thing, cause its not out yet, at least I dont think so.
I can never understand their model system. I do not understand the difference between a 996 and 911 and gt2.

the 996 and 997 are different generations of 911s. 911 is considered the icon porsche since it was the car the marque has established itself with. gt2 and gt3 are just different performance trims as well as carreras, turbos, carrera 4s, cabriolets and so on.
Its also good to note that the 996 and 997 911s are water cooled. Historically, 911s have mostly been air cooled until recent generations.
The pinnacle of 911 by most porsche purists is probably the 993 model which is the last of the air cooled 911s and is and always will be a classic. It is the 911 that all new 911s are measured against.
I hope that answers your question about the model system, jack burton. Im no expert, but I know a little...
some more useless porsche trivia...
the cayenne is actually the 955 and is inspired by the famous paris-dakkar rally car, the 959.

Yeah, its definately RWD the way it should be! Its an extremely race inspired car, I wish I could afford one. It is going to be a $106,000 car but thats worth every penny! If anyone didnt notice that the new one has active suspension. Pretty amazing, it can be a daily driver and a track car in that case. I wish I was rish

Theres just a limit to air cooling. Only so much heat capacity in air they had to go to water eventually. Air was pretty neat while is lasted. I really wouldnt think it would change much for a driver, its just the cooling method of the engine. Does change the sound of it though.
