Honda breaks its own rules
okay we all know about the 2 page ad in the honda Si brochure that shows all sorts of modified cars, then at the bottom in microscopic type it says modifying your car with non-honda parts will void the warranty and can be dangerous. Okay thats nice. Then we have the civic nation commercials. I won't even discuss that.
But here is where it gets interesting. I remember reading some things in my owners manual about the car. It says I should not lower my car past factory specification because doing so would be unsafe and result in a crash. Yet it seems honda can offer a shock and lowering spring package that does just this, for a bit over $2k. And even better, you get to keep your warranty if you pay a dealer $500+ to install it. Okay my manual also says that I should not replace my factory rims with plus size replacements, because doing so will adversely affect handling, the ABS system, and could result in a crash. Okay, then why is honda offering 18 inch rims on the new Si?? Wow not sure what to say. Lets move on. The new civic also comes with DRL, which is supposed to be safer. Now lets ignore for now that amber drl has been proven more effective yet honda still chose a hi beam based system. Now the NHSTA states that any DRL system must deactivate when the parking lights are turned on, for safety reasons. Well guess what, I have seen newer civics driving around with parking light and drl only in pure darkness. Guess they didn't follow that rule, making the lighting illegal on that vehicle. Oh well.
After reading all this, you have to wonder what honda is really after. At first they say we make economy cars and strongly discourage modifying a vehicle. But yet they put out a full line of aftermarket accessories from spoilers, fog lights, lip kits, lowering springs, bigger rims etc all marketed under "factory performance." But I thought honda didn't like modifying cars? Oh wait there is money to made here. It doesn't matter that we said these modifications are unsafe in the past, we are saying they are safe now so please buy them and only authorized installers should put them on to increase safety. Wow.

I love my civic, but honda sucks. They are corrupt gluttons when it comes to the consumer and warranties. Good post gearbox, I think they are just about as evil as a car company can get. If their mechanics were 100% super elite, then getting work done by them only would be a different story, but nope they are regular joe shmoes without drug tests.

A Honda spy went to a Scion dealer. They looked at a xb and watched as the salesman charged 400 dollars for some euro lights that cost them 5 bucks and 500 for a 20 dollar spoiler that was already on the car. Then charged 100 extra for the floormats that say xb.
I have no idea about the prices I used but I bet that happened.

Here in el paso, our honda dealerships are actually requiring buying their "performance" package with all new SI's. This consists of a lip kit, rims, and one other componant.(don't remember off the top of my head). Hell Saturn has done it with the SC2 and Ion for a while already, Toyota is doing it with the Scions and Celica's. Why shouldn't Honda jump on the mommy and daddy say I'm fast and furious bandwagon???

Does any of this actually surprise you? If so, you're going to be in a rude rude awakening once you enter the real world.
Making money is the ultimate goal for ANY company. If it'll make you more money, then go for it.
Likewise, if you were offered a job with company A at a salary of $50k a year and you accepted the offer and started training with the company, but then a week later company B offers you $60k salary for the exact same work; most, if not all of you, will be saying bye to company A and flocking to company B.
If you'll be making more money even after accepting and beginning training/working for one company, you'll be going to company B for more money or asking company A to match it.

yeah, money talks, simple as that. The only thing I don't get is they stress the 01 up factory body kits won't fit the sedan, which they fit fine, yeah, the rear was slightly different, but it's fine? I guess they just want that "perfect" fit, I don't know?

i bet nobody even tried it and just made the assumption that in R&D, they made it for the coupe. Afterall, who would want to modify a family sedan haha
Honda has actually dove as low as companies like Scion (hmm. with over XX amount of accesories waiting to personalize your scion). Ok thats it for HONDA. Dealerships; will sell you a car in a heart beat, something happens (which almost always happens) they don't backup their word or warranty. Using modding => personalizing^ as the culprit for their own defects and when it comes to SERVICE. K here we go first time i took my car to the dealer they diasgnosed my pads, rotors, axles, knuckles, shocks, indicator switch recall, a/c compressor, alternator and brake bosster. So far after 4 yrs of owning my car i've got 2 CELs. Caused by a loose o2 sensor and exhaust leak from my OEM header. I only take this car to dealer for my oil changes kaput. When i changed my plugs, battery, my car idled perfectly w or w/o the a/c on. After my last oil change b4 that oralndo meet, my compressor is acting up, i have 3 missing head bolts just gone from my new megan header which i torqued to specs to fix the leak and tightened my sensors and ran a mechanical o2 DIY. When I changed my pads 2 moths ago the rotor on the driver side just wobbled because of the two missing screws. remember i didn't change tires/wheels or anything having to do with suspension (or alignment work). They just forgot to put them back on when they repalced my entire left brake assembly, and knuckles and OEM side which they broke after lifting my car incoreectly. They sracthed my car twice (minor). broken two studs when they fixed those two screws for free. Then repalced the studs for free. lol i can keep going and going

After going to a tech school I realized that dealers have the worst technicians. It's because they know that people will keep going back because it's the dealer. Whereas a regular shop may look iffy but they do better work overall because they need people to go back to stay in business.
all corporations are money-hungry profit ******...and that's how they stay in business...too easy. if it makes them money, they're gonna do it, regardless if they have to renig on their word go against their own best practices.
Yes, honda is always looking to expand profits by getting us to spend more money, but the thing you have to remeber companies are scared to death of the liability that they have in this country. So there will be disclaimers everwhere that dont make any sense. you can probably protest anything in the warranty so long as the failure wasnt a result of your mod. If you also notice when you buy things to lower your civic, it will probably say not safe for road use after they went on and on about road comfort.

eh, they have MUGEN for a reason. basically they are saying, "if your not willing to watch the **** break don't mod it". cause ya know what, a motor is not invinsible. it is not indestructible. no pain no gain. same with cars. things bust. if its your fault, don't expect the dealer to fix them.
civic nation commercials- 10 years old. give me a break.
HFP- way to make money, cause ALL the aftermarket people were making it all. and honda probably got pissed and said "i want a piece of that pie!" the modding industry makes so much money i can't even imagine.
gearbox, YOUR car says don't get bigger rims, or whatever. maybe in the NEW SI it needs those wheels for the grip of power.

ATTENTION!
all they are saying, long story short is. dont do this or that to mod your car, let us do it. that way they know its done by someone they can trust, also that way its not gonna be lowered 4inches or on 20's.
this is all, they just want to allow you to mod while having restrictions covering theyre asses so that when you lower your car too much and bend parts they dont have to warranty it because they said they could do it for you. its also another way to get money from you, and especially the unknowledgable who would tihink maybe these hfp parts are special.
