Cracked winshield
I was cleaning the snow off my windshield last night and I noticed I had a crack starting in the black area at the bottom of my windshield. The thing is, I can't see any rock chip. It's like it came out of nowhere. Do you guys know what honda's policy on windshields is - if there isn't a rock chip at all??? I'm thinking I'm probably screwed. My last cars windshield went 12yrs without a single crack.

There's a thread somewhere about many of the 2K1s needing some work done on them because windshields were cracking. Apparently it was a warranty issue.

Yes it was. I searched back 90 days and can't find the thread. I remember reading about it though. They take out your windshield and hammer down the metal in the two corners. There was either a recall or a TSB on it. Somewhere on this site is a link to all that info. Need one of the smarter guys to hook you up.

in florida if your winsheild gets cracked insurance pays for it with no questions asked. so find out from your insurance company bc honda might take 2 days to do it where the insurance company will just send a guy to your work and replace it in the parking lot

My insurance is for all glass except the windshield. But thanks for the suggestion. I found a technical service bulletin about it although, I can only see the topic - not what was in the bulletin though. Thanks family man I'm going to keep searching in vehicle issues/problems.
Anyone else know anything??
Thanks Redsands

Im in the same boat as you redsands. I have a crack in the upper right hand corner when looking at the windshield from the outside. Its about 8 inches long and comes down right in my driving view. There is no evidence of a rock chip but my dealer swears there is the littleist chip that was caused from a rock. This is impossible since i noticed the crack after my car didnt leave my house for 5 days. So as of now im waiting for a rep from honda of america to look at my windshield to see whats up. Just some warning though the dealer wants around $600 for a new windshield installed. I found a local place by me that will come to your house and its only $275. Good luck!!

Blah, I found the service bulletin if you want it, I printed it out and I'm going into the dealership this week with it. The Bulletin number is 01091 and it can be printed out at service bulletin link. Hope that helps.

Not really. I had them done. They needed to mold a little fiberglass tray to mount them into the headrests. Then the fabric just folds into the hole and they are preasure fit in there and wired up. Had to cut some foam of course. Thanks for the complement.

So I went to honda yesterday and had a tech look at my windshield. He found the smallest little dot on the crack and said that it was due to "that chip". I told him that that chip shouldn't have caused a crack and he was like fine, go get a second opinion at our glass shop across the street. I took it to the glass shop and they agreed with me. So I went back to honda and they got the service manager, I argued with the service manager for a while and then showed her the service bulletin. She told me that because it was from a US website it didn't apply. I told her that the US and Canadian coupes both come from the same factory, and all she could say was that Honda Canada had not told her anything, so I asked her if she read every service bulletin for the 2k1 honda civic - which she didn't answer. Finally in the end she said that she was going to research it and call me within the next week. I hate that dealership, but it's the closest one to my house. They always try to screw you, and unless you fight them, they don't want to do anything. They once told my wife that our check engine light problem, may not be covered under warranty - on my stock civic!!!
Sorry so long, just thought I'd update.
