Possibly the RSX Type R, the Civic SiR (also known as the Type R, but that is what it will be called in the States) isn't supposed to be released in the US until 2004.

Dude, the SiR is the american Si. Motor Trend and Car and Driver are moving on Speculation. Personally, theres never been a CTR here, I dont think there ever will be. If they bring the Type R here as SiR..... just call it a Type R jesus christ.

The Civic SiR and and Civic Type R are different cars. The SiR is already in both Canada and the United States. In the US it is called simply the Si. This uses the base RSX engine, 2.0L 160hp. The Civic Type R is rumored to come to North America sometime next year as a 2004 model. It shares the same platform as the SiR, but cranks out much more power (can't recall the exact numbers)... Just don't get them confused...

What's happening with this SiR model? I haven't really heard anything about it, where's everyone getting this story from?
Edit: slow modem, disregard

the ctr won't make it over here, honda is trying hard to put the performance tag on the acura side of things, the only reason the si/sir made it over, is in response to the focus svt, and all these stupid station wagon/suv/hb's like the protege5, matrix, ario(whatever toyota just sh*t out), vibe etc etc......we'll probobly see the rsx type R though.......

yes it is. But there's one more thing. we don't have the EX 4 door. If you want the 4 Door with VTEC you have to look at the Acura EL (1.7EL, and formerly 1.6EL). It comes with leather, 4 wheel discs, and a different bumper, grill, and headlights. Plus it has keyless entry to the trunk.

This is a copy of the info as it appears in Motor Trend....I really don't see how this could be true. Page 24 of the Feb. issue in the column on the left side.

Honda's euro market Civic Type-R has the same 200hp i-VTEC engine and six-speed gearbox as the North American-market RSX Type-S. That's why we get the 160hp five-speed Civic Si instead. But a 200-hp Civic hatchback is on the way, and it won't encroach on the Acura's market-position supremacy because the 220-hp RSX Type-R will be imported here about the same time. Both arrive within a year.

I almost believed it until it said "within a year". They were promoting the Si last spring, why the h3ll would they not be promoting the type R model now?

There is currently a 6th gen civic Si (SiR in canada). Not a 7th gen though... if you see an Si or SiR sticker on a 7th gen... it's just rice. The new civic Si is the hatch back. However, honda has stated that there are plans in the works to bring the Civic TYPE R to the US in 2003. Along with the RSX type R which will have more hp than the civic Type R.

I read that in the new Motor Trend also. I don't think the 7th gen Civic Type-R will ever come to North America because it would take away sales from the RSX Type-S. There's probably a chance the RSX Type-R will come over here in 2004 at the very earliest. Remember, the Integra Type-R didn't come over until the Integra's 4th or 5th year of production.

It will be a hatchback just like the Si. They look similar but the Type R looks much better.

what makes me laugh is how ppl think the Type R is good looking yet the Si is ugly.

All the type R has that is different is the body kit, spoiler and 17's. all of which are probably availible from Honda.

So if you put the OEM kit, spoiler and 17's on the Si, it cease to be ugly?

Hey Neo I never said the Si was as ugly as some ppl on this site claim it is. Again aesthetics is subjective no matter how you look at it.

Thank you Snowman. I agree that it's not the best looking car out there, but then again, when the 2k1 coupe first came out, I thought that was the ugliest piece of **** ever made by Honda. 3 months later, i liked it enough to buy one. Keep an open mind, and give it time.

Yeah, like somebody said the only Type R that would ever make it over here would be the RSX Type R. The most we could hope for is that we'll probably see a Civic SiR (Si in US) coupe sometime in the next couple of years.... for those who aren't interested in the current hatchback.... if they don't release an SiR coupe they're gonna lose a ton of customers....
