Look how far the front end goes in before the air bag pops. That **** is more of an aluminum car than ours. LOL.

Not quite. They copied the Rodeo, but it's not one and the same. Chinese carmakers copy a lot of cars, including the newly released Rav4.

That article in Edmunds is off and outdated--the EuroNCAP, the organization that tests cars in Europes, deemed that drivers would not survive in a 64 kph collision. Here's a more recent article:

Well ... depends on what you say as "didn't do that badly" ...

Yeah, the crash results are poor, and as the years pass by the safety standards gets set higher than ever before.

That's just it ... it would prolly be alright in the NHTSA full frontal @ 35mph. Afterall, the previous GM minivans did alright in the full frontal (4/4 stars and 3/4, respectively), and look how they fare in the 40mph offset:

http://www.iihs.org/ratings/rating.aspx?id=67

Ditto with the Astro van:
http://www.iihs.org/ratings/rating.aspx?id=66

Then there was the previous generation Ford F-150 ... 4/5 in NHTSA, but look at the offset:
http://www.iihs.org/ratings/rating.aspx?id=7

Some Mitsus and Nissans were ****ty too. Hell, a driver might very well be eating an A-pillar in an older Galant!

Anyways, crash test ratings are somewhat moot as a legality status here in the US, seeing how our pitiful standards would allow even a low scoring vehicle to be sold. USDOT requirement is only passing a 30 mph full frontal ... which explains the Daihatsu Charade and the Yugo.

-- Kane ... FWIW, NHTSA hasn't changed their requirements since 1978. Our legal crash tests are still benchmarked against 1976 Volvo 240's!
