2001 civic lx need some help....

My buddy just purchased 2001 Honda Civic LX coupe. He is not the most knowledgable when it comes to cars so I volunteered to aid him in modifying the car. After researching the D17A powerplant, it seems that the power potential is limited. From what I have seen extensive modifications including turbocharger and internals are bringing them to a maximum of 250 hp. It seems that the aftermarket for the D17 is not the largest, but on the incline. A motor swap seems to be the alternative, but the cost of the k-series motor and labor of the swap is high. Are there other reasonable swap possibilities such as a b-series. Any useful information would be greatly appreciated.

theres no max amount of horsepower for the d17, if you have enough money you can make it do anything, like you said its basically turbo it or k swap it, thats about it, your friend bought the wrong car to mod

Not everyone has the luxury of having the car they want. You have to work with what you have, without that the tuner market wouldn't exist.I should have specified that money is an object.

money is an object. thats nothing new. tell him to save EVERYTHING for a turbo. you can find used kits here. or get him to build a custom one piece by little piece. go find a junkyard. go get a vovlo turbo, or a old ford probe GT, lol. hell, an old regal turbo would be cool. anyway, used= saving money. tell him to get used to it lol! no pun intended.

Unless you can find a B series motor from a 01' Integra, any other B swap is illegal. So the K swap is your best bet if you want to tune more in the long run.

B swaps are just as or more expensive to do than a k swap. So its easier to stick with a k swap if he wants to do that. He should also consider doing suspension work to increase handling as well.
