why is it that everyone.... i mean just about EVERYONE hated the 7thgen SI body??? alot of people hated it because they said it looked like a mini mini van/ mini odyssey. but why is it that the new GTI is just about the same body shape, "egg like" for the lack of words but not that much people hating on it? if i can remember, alot of people like the car and impressed by it? is it because it has 200 hp or everyone just purely hated the 7thgen SI?

Well let me be the first to HATE on the new vw... We beat the **** out of one with an old school conquest last weekend on only 7psi. They look like... just about the worst thing ive ever seen and dont know why anyone would daydream about such an ugly ugly car. One of my good friends on this site has an 02 SI and im down with it. But it should have came with a k20a2 then it would have been a very repputable car.

I think the Si had a more pointy nose/front end. where the new GTi has a more rounded front. which gave the 7th Gen. Si the mini-van look.

but to be honest, I dont like the 8th gen civics/ Si....I'd rather them have kept the civic closer to its "original" form.....

the Si had the weird looking flat-but-with-contours-in-it hood, which gave it the minivan look. i, however love them, and was considering one when i got rid of my 7thgen about 3 weeks ago.

I didnt like the 7th gen SI stock, but with a couple mods they look SICK
The new VW isnt my cup of tea at all...so many nicer cars on the market for less $$$

I dont hate, in fact I drive one. I guess everyone has there own taste of what they like. I dont see a minivan at all when I look at my car. And I think ALL the new VW's look like pooh.

I'm sorry but that civic and minivan look nothing alike. The only thing they have in common is the way the front slants down, but the van is way more slanted than the civic.

Well my civic cost 12k, so ur right i didnt spend over 15 on my car. Other than the front ends kinda looking similar they look nothing alike, I can probably find other vehicles that have similar front ends like that van too. I dont see how you can call it a minivan, wheres the sliding door at? Where is the 2 bench seats in the back. That van looks more boxier in the back as well. Out of all of chevys products that van is probably the gayest, ugliest, piece of sh*t they ever made, I wouldnt mind if I never saw a pic of it ever again on this forum.

the 2000 si to me was the best si made from HONDA yet. ive only seen one 7th gen si that i kind of liked and trust me it was nice and clean. if you get modified mag about 2 or 3 issues ago they told why they thought it was an ugly car. i dont think its ugly at all but im more of a coupe kinda guy, i think it just boiles down to if your a hatch or a coupe guy. but you bring up a good point about the vw the thing i think with that is that vw comes with a more quality interior and a bigger engine and isnt it factory turbo charged? i like the new vw i dont have a problem with it, BUT it is a hatch none the less like i said im a coupe guy ill never own a hatch. and no the 7th gen si doesnt look like a mini van at all.

couldnt agree more about the shifter.. but they are quick as **** thought might get that engine in the near future. well the a2 that is the z1 costs to much but thats what i really really want. but of course if i got that id have to swap tranny's too 5 spd isnt enough.

I liked them, but not in stock trim. I like hatches in general. I do see the minvan resemblance, but come on, its got only two doors... and of course the hatch.


I'd take a new GTi over the last Si anyday, even if the the old body had the new engine.

Have yous ever driven this car. I mean the shifter looks a little odd being there but I think it is so much better ergonomically designed. Feels so comfortable to me driving this car. BTW the shifter is not where the radio is, the radio is in the same place as the ex, lx. The only mistake Honda made was not putting an a2 or better engine in it.

i have driven both. i picked my coupe instead of the SI cause the SI is so fugly to me. id rather have the nicer lookin car than a little faster. if i wanted an SI i would have gotten the 00 istead

The short overhang in the front and the big, unsporty looking headlights are what make the EP hatch look like a mini minivan. I'd have to disagree and say the GTI is nice though.

the body style is the same though, why would people hate the SI more than the GTI? GTI has that chrome grill lip, no one seems to find that annoying. i thought everyone hates chrom too???

i loved the 7thgen si's and the new vw's are well meh nothing to get all excited about. i think a vdub should be a box....hands down. thats why i like the old school jettas and golfs
