Silver Civic... please try it out. I have a manual tranny and know that it stays in gear if you don't change it...

in manual first it will shift into 2nd due to a rev limiter, in manual second it will start in 1st and then shift into 2nd and stay there. Its there for "towing" and climbing hills and what not. The reason why it is there is to apply more holding power to the held member in your selected gear.

How did you get your license without knowing how to operate a car. JP but really I know when I took driver's education required at my HS alot of these things were explained, Automatic transmissions are self explanatory.*EDIT* Just realized how contradictory my comment was *EDIT*
