Which do I buy?
Which do I buy?
I am looking into buying a civic. I have been reading around and can't decide on which generation to go with...Id like to go with a 7th gen but can only afford a 2001. I have been told to stay away from the first year of a new generation. So I looked at some 2000's. After reading some reviews seems the 2000's had all the bugs worked out and the 2001's had a few problems.
Any input on which I should look into? I was looking at a 2001 DX-G for 9500 canadian (4dr, 5spd, A/C, PDL, 106K). Havn't come across any 2000's for a decent price.

i have had my 2001 for 3 years now, i drive it hard but keep it in very good condition. as for these problems you speak of, i don't know what you are talking about, i have had none what so ever. i have never had to take my car into the shop once
, unlike my ford which was my first car
was in there the first 3 months i had it but that is not the point here. if it is Honda Certified then you should be in good shape that is all that matters, plus you can buy a warranty to cover you for the next few years!! i wouuld say go with the 2001!!

that is a current poll of people with members who have not and have problems and so far, not many people are having significant problems unless caused by themselves!

lol, doesn't bother me, keep it!
Snowman, i don't know how old you are but the year of the car you buy might have something to with insurance prices for you!!! you may be better off getting an older civic!!
it's cool man...just helping everyone out!!

Well if you decide to go for the an 01, just watch out for potiental tranny problems. Auto tranny might slip and fail and for manual, gear grines. I have mines since August and havent had problems with it, except that the 2nd gear would pop out once in a blue moon. But if I had know about tranny problems, I would have went for a 6th gen but then again I wouldnt have met everyone here, so Im happy with my 7thgen.
Oh and I think that you could do better then $9500cdn for a 2001 DX-G.

I haven't had the chance to fix it yet. When July comes around adn I have extra b-day money I might take the time to fix it. Heres the DIY by StreetGlower http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=162006
Just get the right parts you need for it. I have only seen them at http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/ and it's not overly expensive.
By the way, sorry for the thread highjacking!!!

I found a 2003 for 10800cnd. All cars mentioned are 5spd. I am looking for convenience and the 2003 is a 2dr...I think I can live with the 2dr for a car that is 2 years newer. I am going to look into insurance on a 2000, 2001, 2003 4dr vs 2dr. That might be my deciding factor here. How about anyone else? What is the difference in 2dr and 4dr insurance?
I dont think its that much of a difference per year but you could do an online quote or call your insurance company. And the 2003 looks like a better deal but what trim and kilometers it have?
if u treat ur car right it'll love u back son...... i drive my 01 lx auto harder than most stick on the road and no problems so far i've own 2 2001 civics, 1st one got hit by a tree literally (hurricanes man..shh.flawda)
The 2003 was a slavage....Frame was lifted at one corner but everything was fixed and the car has 40k on it with no problems since the crash. Total is 80k. He will do 9500 for the 2003. Insurance is also the same. Its a civic DX and they put a sunroof in when they stripped it as well as a sound system all wired under the floor.
Stay away from that car, since its got a salvage value, it will be worth **** when you and if you decide to sell it later down the road. Also you might run into trouble like mechanical failures or suspension related problem, known to happen in some cars. And I wouldnt buy a car that didnt originally come with a sunroof, it could have leak problems in the future if not now. So in my opinion, stay away from that car.
I was thinking the same. He is in my class and the work was done by his father. So I think I can trust him...If I bought it and decided to trade it in in a few years it would be tagged as a salvage? Maybe I will stick with the 2001 even tho I am still worried about having problems.
Anyone think that a used 2001 by now would have all the bugs worked out and covered under warrenty?
