01-05 Civic HP/TQ under SAE J1349
Just noticed Corolla's 1.8L has been reduced down to 126HP instead of 130.
This brings the question, how much did the D17 drop? 115 and 127 version.

well, it's just something nice to know I guess...
I mean, K20 fell 5hp, K24 would have reduced if they didn't boost another 10HP on it before SAE change.
Right now it's kinda unfair comparison with these new SAE rating when we can still keep saying our car has 115 or 127hp while comparing to the new civic and such. It also seems to me that both Honda and Toyota's engine dropped in HP in most cases compared to other manufacturers. Mazda's 2.0L went from 148 to 150HP while RSX's K20 went from 160 down to 155HP, I always thought it was pretty cool that they were able to run 2.0L at 160HP with regular fuel, but now it's just not that great.

Just because the number on paper is lower doesn't make the car any slower. Car is just as fast/slow.
Remember when they used to measure gross horsepower, back in the heyday of the musclecar?

ironchef, that is what I am trying to point out.... the new SAE changes factory claimed #'s but WHP doesnt change. I should have stated my guess was for BHP, not WHP.

I'd say d17a1 is 113 hp sae and d17a2 is 124 hp sea....
I doesnt metter for me, because when I was stock I made 113whp, so now sae or not, it still 113whp.....
^^ different dynos produce different WHP figures. plus, its how the car FEELS thats important. lets say car A and car B races. if car B dyno's higher than car A but car A wins, whats the problem? driver, weight, gearing....but thats for another thread.

Unless someone unleashed a little gremlin into my engine bay to make my car slower, what does it matter? They just changed the way they measure it, and like everyone said, who cares about the numbers on paper? It's the numbers on the pavement that matter, and my car sucks in both departments!

Feeling is more subjective b/c 1 driver may "feel" the car is strong and other may not like it at all. As you stated dyno #'s can only be used up to a certain extent. Wuoldnt say there is a problem, an extreme example I can give, Honda Pilot vs. Lotus Elise in a drag race..... yeah.

Actually SAE now is the Society for Advanced Mobility Air Sea Land and Space...in other words, not just cars but everything related to transport vehicles. That SAE standard regulates the conditions at which an engines is tested, so it will mimic real world conditions and also all the tests are done same way with every engine, regardless of the manufacturer and the conditions in the test area.
