So I've been seeing the new Civics on the road more and more in the past few days. I really like the sedan but I've only seen maybe two coupes and it was for a quick second.
I'd like to hear you 7th generation guys thought's on the new Civic. Style and performance wise. Let me know.

Rep Power: 788 they look okay but i felt very disconnected from the road when driving it and wouldn't do it again. performance felt the same as the 7thgen.

Rep Power: 285 8thgen civic has lost the civic's essence, compare it to previous models and you will see; it looks more like an accord type of car.
The looks are OK but not my taste, and the Si, well look at that motor but thats about it

Rep Power: 247 I haven't got to drive the Si very much. I only drove it around the lot because they had just gotten it in. I loved it.

Rep Power: 323 They've changed sooooooo much to compete with the other cars in the market. The 7th gen is simple, raw, and traditional. The 8th gen is different. It looks nice but is complicated... well, I like it, but I'll always like the 7th gen more.

Rep Power: 0 My parents just bought one tonight....its nice, but breaks the tradition of what most people think of a Civic as. Slight lag in the throttle due to the drive by wire....not too bad. Had some nice pickup, the thing was screamin, and its just a stock LX. Quicker than 7thgens it seemed like. The dash looks awesome, it was smoother and much quieter than my 7thgen. More upscale, the Fit is the new civic i guess.
Also, the cd player is "built in", I dont know how the aftermarket will deal with that.

The 8th gen is a great machine all around. Good looking, more powerful, etc.
Most people here who say they dont like it have subconsciously put themselves off to the car so they don't have to feel bad about their current car.
Me, i love my 7th gen and have put alot into it. But I also would take an 8th gen over my car.

yeah, when a newer generation replaces the older one, the owners of the older one subconsciously are hatin on the newer one because it's newer and better and they know that for a fact. Cars like Civics will NEVER get worse as newer ones come out. If you honestly take the time to drive and examine the 8th gen in depth, you will notice that the 8th gen has a tremendous amount of improvements over the 7th gen. The new motor is not only way underrated at 140 stated crank hp, but is also way quieter and fuel efficient. The new chassis is a lot stiffer than its predecessor, new 5 speed auto tranny is a masterpiece, built in mp3 player is a luxury-status equipment, more safety features, luxury features, and a much better car overall. Think about when the 7th gens first came out. Literally everybody hated on it because it was the new one. Now look at the trend. I see a similar pattern emerging. It's always like this. And for those who say that the new civic lacks the "civic essence", that's a GOOD thing if anything because it's not a good thing to have the "civic essence" of being a cheap econobox. I think the new civic is simply amazing. Why do you think the ENTIRE line-up won car of the year so fast? there is a reason behind it and it shows.

Rep Power: 788 i just don't like it cause it doesn't drive right to me. if someone gave me one free i would say no cause i would never be able to drive it. i said i didn't like the 7thgen looks but i still got one cause it was around the same price as the used 2000. the 7thgen imo marked when the civic finally changed from a civic into something else. the inside was still nice but lets face it they look nothing like a civic. 2000 was the last and best civic made. alot of people have asked what kind of car i drive since i took the emblems off. when i say civic they say oh it doesn't look like a civic...

Rep Power: 232 Like one person mentioned above, the Civic will never get worse as time goes on. They have added so much to an 'economy car' its sick. The Si is definitely nice. The fit and finish is nice. From when I went to my 99 EX to my 05 EX, that was like night and day too. I still miss the 99 and continue to think that the 99-00 style still rocks everything, the 05 is so plush and upscale for being such a tin can. I think they did a great job on the 06. I personally havnt had the styling grow on me yet, what with the short hood and all, but I know it will, just like everything else.

Rep Power: 285 The suggested price of the new Si is $28,000 here in PR, so I would'nt even try to test drive it; maybe my cousin will buy one and I can do some driving with it, but after seeing the price he'll go with either the type-s or I dont know

Rep Power: 229 It's sooo funny how i love all the gen's. i currently own a 7th and from the very first one to the 8th gen there has been such a great improvement overall. Finally Honda gave us an engine in the 8th gen line up to smack other competitors up. now no one shouldn't be complaing about how slow the 8th gen is stock. In terms of look IMO honda is trying to stick with the trend, yeah they could of been a lil bit more fresh with the new design for 8th gen, but a lot of cars nowadays are starting to look alike. hopefully 9th gen will have a whole new look. we got the engine and performance stock now let's cross our fingers and hope they sweep everything with the 9th gen. let's look towards aftermarket to be unique with 8th gen once again.

Rep Power: 229 When I first saw the 8thgens on the honda site I thought they were horrible. I didn't like how the front end angled down so much... the sedan looked like the toyota prius to me.
I didn't have the subconscious feeling that I liked mine better than the new one because at the time I was looking back in october I had just sold my 96 civic and my wife had gotten her Xb and I was stuck with her gay escort zx2. Trust me, ANYTHING is better than a ford escort zx2. =)
I went down to a dealer and looked at the new civics in person and I have to admit they do look better in person, but I still prefer the older body styles. I like the 7th gen style better than the 6thgen but maybe that's just because my 96 was a little rough around the edges. It ran great but it was that crappy island coral (pinkish maroon) color and it was fading and peeling.
I'm glad I was unable to afford the 8thgen and got "stuck" with a 2001. I like the body better and it looks more like a civic to me. Though if I could afford that Si, that would change things a little. I could get used to the looks of the car if it was to have that engine.

Rep Power: 314 as a consumer, I am planning to get a 8thgen somewhere down the line. It's definately not a Civic of old.... but lets remember, times have changed. 3 generations ago, you can buy a Civic with practically no insulation, no PS, no PW, no AC, etc.The 7thgen was not looked upon as a "benchmark" type car which perhaps ppl of the past may be used to. Now the 8thgen has more power, slightly less space, more refinement, cleaner emissions, more MPG. This is a step up passed the old D series engine. And of course the new Si is nice... once again times have changed. 200BHP is very common now.... while in 1990 a 5.0 Mustang had about that much.... what they should have done is put the K20A2 in the 7thgen Si.

Rep Power: 285 Its true that times have changed and that's an evolution, but Honda should have designed the 8thgen civic in base of its essence, a small-medium car with a nice style, not overwhelming or too much; also it doesnt have to be the same as others generations in terms of style, but could have adopted a little bit of others generations so it could be called a Civic. In my opinion, the new 8thgen does NOT look like a civic, if you undo the civic emblem and see that car for the first time, you will wonder what new car Honda has introduced to the market. I'm not saying its horrible or anything like that, I think it looks good overall, but thats how I feel.

Rep Power: 314 definately true, looks wise, it does not look like a Civic, it's rather radical compared to what ppl would think as a Civic. Now compared to cars in its class, it is still small. Cars such as Corolla, Sentra, Mazda 3, Neon, Focus are all longer (sedan versions). And the 7thgen actually shrunk a little from 6thgen sedan. They only went up about 2 inches from the 7thgen, which isnt horrible.

Rep Power: 451 i really dont like the 8th gens. I feel that the coupe looks similar to the scion tc and the sedans look like there designed for the older crowd and younger kids driving them look silly. I sort of feel the same way with the coupes, it seems that they are not eye candy any more and i know i wouldnt want a sedan or even a coupe. I havent seen one young person driving a new civic around my area at all, i only see older people with them and ive seen about 20 8th gens already. The 7th gen i have to say is the best one yet. for 8th gen

Rep Power: 0 A lot of you guys are making good points. Everybody will have their favorite generation, but my opinion is that the new Civic looks and probably performs (Haven't driven it yet) a lot better than the 7th generation. I'm gald to see the new Civic on the roads because I never really was a fan of the 7th generation styling.
I thought I read somehwere that the new Civic Si is doing 0-60 in about 6.8 seconds. That's pretty good concidering it's an economy/commuter car.

Rep Power: 314 well, I have to say not many young ppl have the new Civic b/c........ dealers arent marking down prices and not everyone has $$ to spend on a new 1. When 7thgencivic first started, there werent many 16-20 yo ppl on here. And most ppl dont buy Civics to mod... they buy it b/c it's a very safe and good investment for a car.

Good points there. Hell, I'm 30 and I couldn't afford one. The newest car I could afford was my 01 civic. Could've maybe stretched it for an 03, but I got an awesome deal. Made the dealer throw in a timing belt due to the mileage being close to time for that, a spoiler and retinting of the windows.
To buy a new civic ex would kill most people. So then you end up having to settle for a lesser model. I would never settle for the lesser model again.
